Peggy, I checked with the Vedder - they don't have his records there. Hi all, Does anyone know if any 19th-century business records exist for Willis Baldwin, the undertaker in Hunter? Thanks, Peggy

Sylvia and I have been trading e-mails for years now and I've contributed material to her website before. It's always been my intention to contribute as much as possible. I'm sure it's the same for many of you as well, but, well, you know, time and inertia have conspired against me, even though I've had these will transcriptions for some time. To make them useful for Sylvia's website I had to go back and add titles, copied from info and probate dates to the raw transcription text. And, well, I had other things to do. It's not that I didn't want to share, but I was thinking of my wants first. I mean with the time I have - I always want to move my research forward. I guess after Katrina hit New Orleans I've become more focused on how to preserve what I have already done. I'd like to encourage you all to do the same. I mean I back-up my PC files regularly and think of myself as smart for doing so, but in some cases smart isn't sufficient. So, I'm thinking of how I can better protect myself from complete loss in a catastrophe and I'm in an e-mail exchange with Sylvia about something else entirely when a light bulb goes off in my head. I download tons of stuff from her website - why not upload. Sylvia's got a free, geographically remote (for me, and, I assume, for you), back-up site just waiting there. Like me, I'm sure you intended to contribute sometime because you have a big heart. Here's why it's worth your time to do it now. Cause you might lose it permanently if you don't. Jim Brady
Hi Listers, I am revisiting an old topic as my brick wall seems to be getting higher. I recall a message some months ago about getting copies from the Allen County Public Library through PERSI for $7.50 per letter and $.20 per page. I have checked PERSI and see the list of volumes. This is a probably a very stupid question, but does "per letter" mean the same thing as "per request"? If I write to request 5 volumes, is the charge going to be $7.50 + $.20 per page? Lately there has been some discussion on the list about preserving your source documents. Well, once enterprising list member has decided that the Greene Co website, Tracing your Roots in Greene Co, is as good a place as any. I have just received transcriptions of all the Clough/Clow wills in his possession and they will be posted to the Greene Co website shortly. So, if you have source documents, wills, deeds, pictures etc - why not submit them to the Greene Co website. It can be anonymously or with your email attached, so you can connect with other researchers! If you'd like to find out more, or submit material directly to me ofr transcription or already transcribed please contact me at esi@francomm.com Sylvia
Hi Sylvia! Well I did make it back to Troy last week, but as always, it was a very short hectic week. Hopefully, next time I'm back Jeanne and I can get to meet you, maybe in the summer. We're still digesting the info you sent us and will probably ask you to do more. Thanks again. Well, the Overbaughs are quite numerous, to say the least and are in quite a few cemeteries. There is the old Overbaugh cemetery up in the Embought. Not sure where these particular Overbaughs are buried. Sylvia ----- Original Message ----- From: "R. We are searching for Philo Snyder. Information gave to me by mother-in-law. This is my husbands great great grandfather, he married Catherine Maybee, and had a son Ashley B. Snyder. He was one of a set of triplets, born in Catskills. No one is sure if that is the town or the mountains. He fought in the Civil War. His two brothers names are suppose to be Philander, and Philip. I have found a Philo Snyder living with Philip and Margaret Snyder on the 1850 census in Durham, if one of the triplets were named Philip that would makes sense. The 1855 census has Catherine Maybe Snyder born in Albany, New York, her date of birth changes on different census from 1836-1840. I believe they may married in the Durham area. Ashley B Snyder was born in Sep 1857 in Green County. By 1860 Catherine and Ashley where living in Lewis County and I have no idea where Philo when. I find Civil War record for a Philo Snyder from NY, but if this is him he didn't enlist until 1864, it says he was discharged, so I don't think he died in the war. The last census I find him on says he was a furnace man. Philip was a miller per the census. Was wondering if anyone has any information on this Snyder family or any Maybee families which Catherine may belong to. I think she maybe have had a sister or some kind of relative named Sabrina. I believe this because in 1860 she was living/working for an Austin family in Demark, Lewis county and in 1855 a Sabrina Maybe was living/working for them.

Hi Sylvia, THANK YOU! Now, I know where John Albert and Selina Matthews are buried; also, that it is Lauren Alonzo's son who is buried with him and his wives. Found others too and it filled in many blanks in my FTM. You do a GREAT job and I want you to know that it is much appreciated.
