Zadock the Priest - is by Handel - it's one of the British Coronation Anthems that will be played at every coronation. IT is a strange coincidence that someone told me to Google Zadok Pratt, spelling his name with one d. I had two d's and the odd this is that I had been reading, that very morning, about Zadok the high priest, in the Old Testament, and then without thinking of that was looking for people I didn't have information on in my program, and I came to him, for some reason. The OT Zadok is in some major piece of classical music, and I cant seem to remember which one, but the two men seem to fit good characters; Zadok means "righteous" and Zadok Pratt, from the little I have read, so far, seemed like a really great man, as was his OT namesake. There certainly is a variety of information on him on the net, Sue

A great mnemonic device for remembering Zadock Pratt's wives is BEAMS. B - Beda Dickerman E - Esther Dickerman, Beda's sister A - Abigail Watson M - Mary Watson, Abigail's sister S - Susie Grimm There's a genealogy on this branch of the family entitled, "Supplement to a History Entitled 'The Pratt Family or the Descendants of Lieut. William Pratt One of the First Settlers of Hartford and Say-Brook' Being a Continuation of the Record in the Line of Zadock and Hannah Pratt of Stephentown and Jewett, New York," by Frank E. Pratt, 1916. Also see "Bare Trees: Zadock Pratt, Master Tanner & the Story of What Happened to the Catskill Mountain Forests," by Patricia E. Millen, Black Dome Press, Hensonville, NY, 1995. At the time she wrote this book Pat Millen was the curator of the Zadock Pratt Museum in Prattsville. As I recall the original title was something like "Tan Their Hides" rather than "Bare Trees". When you Google Zadock spell his name correctly, with one D, and you'll get over 3,600 results.
Good grief- that is why I only picked up one. His g-grandmother was my 6g-grandmother; I'm descended from her first husband, he's descended from her second.
Here, for perhaps the first time, is the signature of Zadock Pratt on the left, and his son George W. Pratt on the right. Seward

Sue, There is a plethora of information out there on Zadock Pratt and his numerous wives. He was a great man of his times. I would suggest to try him on a Google search first. Regards, Seward

Sue, I do have some information on him, because my ancestor Dennis Stow was involved in some business dealings with him. However, I can't look up the information right now because I'm going out of town for Thanksgiving. I will be home the Wed. after Thanksgiving and I will find the information and post it then.
