Hello Becky, Unfortunately there are many errors regarding George Watson Pratt. Although he had been an acting brigadier general for a short time, when he was mortally wounded at the Battle of Second Bull Run, August 30, 1862, he was still colonel of the 20th NYSM. George died in a house, no longer standing on Hawk Street, Albany, NY on September 11, 1862. He is buried in Albany Rural Cemetery. Although his birth date is correct, technically he was not born in Prattsville but Schoharie Kill, as Prattsville "was formed from Windham, March 8, 1833", three years after his birth. To my knowledge the only piece that George authored was titled, "An Account of the British Expedition above the Highlands of the Hudson River and of The Events Connected With The Burning Of Kingston in 1777". This was published in 1860 by the Ulster County Historical Society. He was awarded an honorary degree as Doctor of Philosophy by the First University of Mecklenburg, Germany, on December 14, 1850. Becky- Thanks so much for that. This is so fun, because my grandmother's childhood family had a summer home in Tannersville. And I suspect that they didn't know that her husband's uncle's marriage led them back up there to that area and also back to the founding families of the nation- I am so interested in this uncle's marriage now. After Thanksgiving I will read more about Pratt- have been very busy the last few days. Do you play this on the organ? I would love to get a copy and try it, or see if there is a piano version- I really hate accompaniments, but sometimes that is all there is. If you google Zadok Pratt you will find a ton of stuff- including the museum- putting them all together gives you tons of info; he is a really great man- a real Zadok! Sue ( I have listened to it on CD and then been watching coronation clips all evening of Queen Elizabeth on this site- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCHUCMiJ_Ew then there are other groups too but this one is filled with film clips- really amazing. I am off to the music store to get all of the words- nearly have all of them. I thought it was about King David, but it is about the anointing of King Solomon, but the most beautiful chapter that includes Zadok is 1 Chronicles 16- I am in music heaven tonight! Sue - I am the organist and choir director at the Reformed Church of New Paltz. I also teach elem vocal music in Orange County - my main instrument in college was the tuba but now I really concentrate mostly on piano and singing/choir stuff. I do a lot of composition and arranging. It was quite a nice surprise to learn that some of my ancestors had been baptized in the New Paltz Reformed Church congregation. I didn't know that when I came - my Dutch of course - Viele - Velie - my Grandmother Brown's family. This group has a connection to the Freer Family of the Huguenot vintage. (a genealogy opportunist and fanatic - I simply can't turn away from a chance to throw out a question or share some info) QUESTION - The New Paltz Baptisms were : 1795 - May 8: born March 17 Arriantje, child of Jocobus Vilie and Cathryntje Palmetier. 1798 - Jan 4: born Jan 1, 1797 Myndert, child of Jacobus Viele and catharine Palementier Some of the other baptisms were in Poughkeepsie. BUT - I have a missing place of birth --- !!! Could be Greene ??? Schoharie ? Delaware ??? Jacobus and Catherine had a son across the river in the Poughkeepsie area named Peter who died as an infant - they reused this name with a later child. Peter - (the second Peter - my GGG Grandfather) was born about 1808. By this time the family had moved north - there is evidence they were in the Schoharie area - they did not get to Gainesville in Wyoming County until about 1812 I think. SO - I'm looking for a birth of a Peter Vieley ( Viele - Velie ---- it's one of those kind of names ) born about 1808 ---- someplace in between New Paltz and Shawangunk and the Herkimer about 1808. Here are Peter's census record in Gainesville per the Gainesville Library in order to help gauge his age. Jacobus Viele died in Gainesville with his wife Catherine Palmetier. I play the piano and am learning the organ, but more of my time is dedicated to a book I am co-authoring, so I have to let it take back seat, time wise. Isn't the organ just a wonderful instrument! Has anyone run into a Lucretia Pratt. She married supposedly Justus Preston and lived in Delaware County, NY town of Franklin with him. I have also seen an Eliza Preston on the 1830 census of same place. The only other Pratts I know of were in Western GREENE County, NY. Lucretia may have been born ca. 1789 or a little later. The child I know about was Elinora Preston b. ca. 1810 in Franklin, NY. I sure hope someone else has seen Lucretia Pratt somewhere along the line. Help! ([email protected])
If you Google - Zadok the Priest Midi you can hear the anthem. M Do they have any records at the Pratt Museum about - who worked at the tannery etc.... ? Mark
