Has any one ever come across records from a traveling or circuit minister named Rev. Orlif G. Hedstrom? Based on civil war pension records some ancestors of mine were married in Prattsville, NY in 1844 with the good Rev. Hedstrom officiating at a Chapman's Hotel. Unfortunately the info creates a brick wall on who the brides parents were. The brides name was Sophia Tompkins, reportedly (based on census records) born in Greene County, but so far no luck on which of several Tompkins families she came from. Hoping the Rev Hestrom left some records somewhere. If any one makes it to the State Library in Albany and has a spare hour, I would certainly appreciate a look to see if his records exist anywhere. Although the cemeteries are old, many new graves have been added since the 1930 inventory, including occupants originally buried under what is now the Ashokan Reservoir. I found the tombstone of ancestors who died in 1904 while walking through the Hudler Cemetery. They were not listed in the 1930 inventory. Additionally, there is a small WINNE family cemetery in the woods next to what is now a wayside rest north of the town of Boiceville, about half a mile north of the intersection of State Road 28 and Winne Road. That cemetery isn't even on the map, let alone in a book or online. There are probably many more like that. The Ulster County Genealogical Society is a fabulous resource. It has a website, but with very little searchable info online. (_www.ucgsny.org)_ (http://www.ucgsny.org)) Nevertheless, I can heartily recommend contacting that organization. Florence Prehn, its librarian, was an invaluable resource when we started searching for Jones and Winne ancestors. She is a veritable encyclopedia of Ulster County genealogy! Robin, a large majority of the Greene County cemeteries are online. Hi Lorna My late husband told me that there was a family by the name of George Coventry that lived on the way up to Mt Pisgah,he thought they were related to the Doolittle family. He remembered a lady by the name of Olive Covenrty. There was a man that he called Dommilie nickols that lived with her.He was down to Burtons playing cards when that house burned,She was supposedly down to the city where ever that was.Maybe some of the stuff from the observatory was at that house.I think these two people are buried at Pleasant valley cemetery.I hope you had a nice holiday aletha ----- Original Message ----- From: "lorna" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, November 15, 2008 10:17 AM Subject: Re: [NYGREENE] Cornwallville Observatory > I know this isnt about Cornwallvilles Observatory, but in regards to Pisgah, > I have always wondered why no souvenirs have surfaced. Audrey, I don't know if this is the same family, but there was a Christian Wagner and Eliza G living in Woodstock in 1850 (154/163). Edward, 12, and Josaphene, 2 were living with them. They were two households from Peter W. and Margaret Short. In a message dated 11/30/2008 3:23:36 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: On Monday last, Angeline Short, a girl between 9 and 10 living with her mother and her step-father, Mr. Christian Waggoner, in this village, was burned by her clothes catching on fire. She died on Wednesday. (Saugerties Telegraph, May 12, 1849) This village being Saugerties. Someone posted some 'lost Shorts" in Shandaken and mentioned Christian Waggoner and his 'son' Edward. Here's a little bit more on the subject, although it does not answer the question of who the Short parents were.
