Can anyone help me find any information on my Great Grandparents? My Grandmother, Elizabeth Hallock was born in Coxsackie 2/29/1896 which I confirmed with the city clerk (Bambi). I am looking for Luther and Elizabeth (Betty) Hallock (Maiden name Matice) Luther is shown the the birth record book as being born in 1861 and Betty in 1871. No name was listed for their daughter. "Catskill Village" is the product of Richard Philp, town and village historian of Catskill, and was done in response to the wild popularity of the 2006 account, "Village: A Bicentennial Celebration of the Village of Catskill (1806-2006)." According to Philp, $10,000 worth of "Village" books were sold in just three days during the summer of 2006 from a card table set up outside of the Heart of Catskill Association office on Main Street. After that kind of success the market for Catskill history was evident. And Philp got a contract. About a year ago, Philp says, he got the contract to put together "Catskill Village," and now the final product is ready for publication -- well, almost ready. Once Philp finishes putting red pen to paper on the galley proofs the book will be ready for production. It will be released just in time for the 400th anniversary celebration of Henry Hudson's voyage up the river that bears his name. To put together the pictorial chronicle, Philp said he scanned about 800 historic photographs of the village of Catskill from private collections of current Catskill residents. Among those collections: the Patrick Walsh collection, the Art Hamm collection, the Robert Carl collection, Philp's own personal collection, and others. A total of 204 photos have been used for the book, accompanied by 20,000 of Philp's words. The book is categorized by neighborhoods, celebrations, working shots, accommodations, disastrous mishaps, and others. The oldest photo included in the book is the well-known 1846 portrait of Thomas Cole. Most of the photos, Philp says, are from 1890 and 1920, all in their original black and white brilliance. Dear Sylvia - thank you for the extraction. The date and place are indeed a real victory to me. I would be interested in any other Schermerhorns or Roberts b.m.d. at the Zion Lutheran Kirk from 1790 - 1850 if any of these records might exist. If not too much trouble. I don't think that John Schermerhorn or his wife probably Maria are buried in Athens. In April 15,1812 Magadalene was baptized by the minister at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Athens - the birth year of Magdalene Roberts is 1812 and her birthplace is Athens. The only John Schermerhorn seems to be the one who married Henrietta Van Hosen and had John and Maria in 1799/1800 at Athens but seems to have had no more. I cant tell how long he associated with the Episcopal Church ( if that is him and it seems to be him). The minister of the Episcopal Church preached the sermon at the death of Mr. Schermerhord of Athens at Hudson in 1816 - was this John ? We might never know unless it was in a newspaper. John Roberts was born in French speaking Canada in 1810 - that a John Roberts in 1820 is living 3 houses from John Schermerhorn @ Athens - probably father of Magdalena that is interesting to me.
