Sylvia, Don't know if this helps, but I found this: John L. Decker Birth: 1787 in Columbia Co., NY? Moved to Greene Co. from Columbia Co. in 1803. Marriage 1 Maria Brandow Children ?Mary Decker b: 24 AUG 1800 in Prattsville, Greene, NY ?Gilbert Decker b: 11 JUN 1802 in Prattsville, Greene, NY ?Catlina Decker b: 2 DEC 1803 in Prattsville, Greene, NY ?Isaac Decker b: 14 MAY 1810 ~Ken~
Sylvia, I don't know if you've looked yet, but the 1820 census has three Deckers in Lexington. Cornelius, Isaac, and John. All three had males less than ten. A Cornelius was?living with his son Abner in 1855. Said he was born COL, but Abner and other Deckers?in Lexington indicate they were born Greene. -----Original Message----- From: Sylvia Hasenkopf <[email protected]> To: Greene County List <[email protected]> Sent: Mon, 5 Jan 2009 6:02 pm Subject: [NYGREENE] John Decker and Sarah Soule Anyone out there working on the Decker family? Hi Sam, many thanks - don't think this is the John I seek, but I see that the family seems to have a huge presence in Ulster Co, and perhaps that's where the Greene Co branch came from. Sylvia, There is a John N Decker, born 8 Jan 1814, died 16 Jan 1861, probably born and died in Orange County. Married Phebe L Kimber of Orange County, and they're both buried at Westtown according to "Descendants of William Lain and Keziah Mather with her lineage from Reverend Richard Mather" by Beatrice L Sheehan. Nope, can't say that I have. Here's a resource you might not have heard of: NYCPL CALL # IKG (New York (State). Adjutant-General's Office. Annual report) 1833-1948 (incomplete) AUTHOR New York (State). Adjutant General's Office. TITLE Annual report. IMPRINT Albany. DESCRIPT v. ill., plates, fold. maps, fold. plans. 23 cm. NOTE Vols. for 1857-1919, 1926-27 include: Official register; beginning with 1883, also issued and cataloged separately as: New York (State). Adjutant-General's Office. National Guard. Official register of the organized land and naval forces of the State of New York (in Old Catalog) NOTE Issues for 1893-1905 have supplementary volumes (serial no. 1 -43), which contain registers of New York regiments in the War of the Rebellion, and which are cataloged separately (in Old Catalog) ALT TITLE Adjutant-General's Office. Registers of New York regiments in the War of the Rebellion. ALT TITLE Annual report. See card catalog behind NYPL reference desk. AKA Report of the Adjutant-General of the State of New York; Registers of New York Regiments in the War of the Rebellion Books are published in successive years but serially numbered. Supplementary Vol. 1-43 mentioned above contain a brief record of service for the men in each unit. Since you already know the unit, you just have to find out which volume it's in. Typically you get when and where enlisted, when and where discharged, age at enlistment, if dead or wounded at which battle, etc. Maybe three or four lines of info at most. I don't know if the NYCPL does look-ups or not on these. If you can find where he enlisted from you might find him there in the 1860 census. Hi Sylvia, Yes, the Deckers seem to be Dutch. They show up in the early Kingston records. Quite a few show up in Columbia County after that, but they're hard to follow as bits and pieces seem to be missing. I'm told that there is Decker genealogy that isn't widely available, but has been filmed by the LDS. A John Decker born 1817 could have come from either side of the Hudson, but I'd look at Ulster County first. Remove all text (the rest of the digest) leaving only the specific message to which you are replying. You can do this by highlighting the superfluous text and deleting it.
