Hi Jim, thanks for your help! I am looking for any Deckers in the 1861 Durham Co census, also in the 1851 census of East and West Canada (Durham Co) Specifically I am looking for Romain Decker in the 1871 census. Prior to that he was in Prattsville. Many thanks! Hi Gary - those two Dollys are the only early Dollys out there, both daughters of Derick and Elizabeth Decker. I am presuming the first Dolly died, unless the same child was batised twice for some strange reason. Dolly was named undoubtedly after her aunt Dorothy, daughter of Gysbert and Catalyntje Spoor, b. Dec 12, 1783 in Columbia Co (Gysbert Decker and Catlyntje Spoor, parents, Dorothy, child, b. 12.12.1783, bap. 2.15.1784, sponsors; Lourens Deckker and Dorothy Decker) and I believe she married Stephen Myers (Royden W. Vosburg, original, Lawrence V. Rickard, copy, Vital records of the Gilboa Reformed Church, Gilboa, Schoharie, Co, NY, (1918, original, 1999 copy), 39, June 1, 1807 - Stephen Myers and Dolly Decker.) The Dolly born in 1808 would have been 16 at the time of her married to Giles Cotton. I have found no other Dollys to date. Does anyone know the english equivalent of Saatjen? Could it be Caroline? Sylvia
I have a couple loose end Deckers listed in my family tree file. They both appear to be from the Prattsville, Ashland and Gilboa area of Greene and Schoharie counties so I am hoping they fit with the other mountaintop Deckers. The first is Burr Decker. I have no dates for his birth or death but I have 2 wives listed for him. One is Ruth Delamater Born December 04, 1899 and died November 28, 1989. Ruth is buried in Fairlawn Cem, Prattsville NY. His other wife I have listed is Ada German. I have her born in Sept 1898. From his wives ages I would guess he was born 1880-1900 but that's just my guess. The second is Dolla or possibly Dolly Decker who married Giles Cotton. I have her born about 1803 and died in 1877. I believe these dates came from the Holcomb Genealogy books. I did find online a marriage date for her and Giles of October 18, 1824 in the Reformed Dutch Church, Gilboa, Schoharie, New York. I think she could possibly be a daughter of Derrick Decker and Elizabeth Sesson. I find on the LDS site two daughters listed for them named Doly and Dolly but the first was born 8/13/1805 and the second 3/24/1808. I'm guessing that since they seem to be named the same that the first died before the next was born. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sylvia.?Mercy Frazee?and this Jacob Soule were probably siblings. I think Mercy and Eliphalet Frazee?were married in Schoharie Co. and settled in Oneida Co. I'm not a descendent but certain names in Greene, Delaware, and Schoharie catch my interest.?Karol Hi Karol. I believe that John Decker is the son of Isaac Decker and Elizabeth Deyo. No concrete evidence yet, however Jacob Soule Decker, infant son of John H Decker and Sarah Soule is buried beside Isaac Decker and wife Elizabeth Deyo in the Deyo cemetery in Lexington. Hi David, there seems to be a separate group of Deckers in Catskill/Athens/New Baltimore who may come from Jan Broerse (Decker) the original settler who came to America in 1644. I haven't researched those Deckers yet. See the write up on Jan below: >From "The Decker Genealogy" a compilation by Benton Weaver Decker: Jan Broerse, born about 1630, was resident of Esopus in 1658. He had come from the West Indies in the Blue Cock in 1644 asnd settled in Albany. In 1660 he stated that he was from Husum, Schleswig Holstein (Denmark). In 1661 he was on the muster roll of the garrison of Wiltwyck. In 1663 he first mentioned his wife Heyletje Jacobs of Marbletown. In 1679 he first used the name of Decker. In 1700 he was a member of troops in Ulster and Columbia Counties. In 1712 he was no longer on the tax list of Ulster County. He settled in Schawangunk (Shongum), 27 miles south of Kingston, where his wife Heyletje died in 1678. He married her sister, Willemtje Jacobs, December 14, 1679. Willemtje Jacobs was the widow of Albert Gerrisen when she married 1668 Jan Cornelissen a young man from Gottenburg, Sweden. When he died she married 1679 Jan Broerse Decker. It is said that son Cornelius Janse Decker was the son of Willemtje by a previous marriage and as was customary was adopted by Jan Broerse. Also, it is said by others that Corneliuswas the twin of Garret 1662. There is no known record to support either of these two conclusions. A daughter, Fietje 1671, is recorded in church records, but nothing further is known of her; yet, there are many "Titje" entries. The writing of the letter "F" in one case could be "T" , thus explaining this discrepancy. Two sons and several grandsons of Jan Broerse Decker moved across th Hudson into Columbia County. There on the east bank, the churches in their baptismal records did not use the wife's maiden name which makes it more difficult to trace families. In addition there were many immigrants of a later date, including several Deckers. InAlbany there was a Jan Brower who married Jannetje Jans and had three children Jan 1658, Pieter 1660 and Hendrickus 1662, but of no family connection to Jan Browersen Decker. Sylvia, Did you figure out who John Decker belonged to? The one married to Sarah Soule? Wasn't that how the Decker exchange started? And was Sarah the daughter of Jacob? I have a Mercy Soule married to a Frazee and am curious. Karol -----Original Message----- From: Sylvia Hasenkopf <[email protected]> To: Greene County List <[email protected]> Sent: Mon, 12 Jan 2009 8:25 pm Subject: [NYGREENE] More Deckers up the mountain I have now determined that Cornelius, John and Isaac had two other brothers who also came over to Greene Co. It appears that 5 brothers - John (b. 1768 and married Maria Brandow), Isaac (b. 1781 and married Elizabeth Deyo), Cornelius (b. 1778 and married Elizabeth Fowler), Derick (b. 1765 and married Elizabeth Sesson) and Laurens (b. 1761 and married Cornelia Brisee) came to Greene Co - Prattsville/Lexington area abt 1800. I see Gysbert and wife Catlyntje being sponsors for Laurens' son Andrew in 1800 in the Prattsville RDC. I have the baptisms for all these sons. There is one other son of this family, Nicholas, b. 1772 that I do not see here in Greene Co. There is also the family of Leendert (Leonard) Decker and Elizabeth Randall. This couple was married in the Linlithgo RDC in Columbia Co on July 2 1780 and removed to Greene county in the early 1800's. They had 5 children that I have found: Elisabeth, b. 1788, Jannetje, b. 1781, William b. 1783, John, b. 1786 (never married) and Nancy b. 1791 (never married).
