Anyone know where the church records are for this church? Sylvia
Anyone heard of this family before? I know that Polly M. died April 27, 1847, aged 21y2m13d. She is buried in the Deyo Cemetery in Lexington amongst a group of stones that appear to be direct family members of Isaac Decker and his wife Elizabeth Deyo. My theory, is that polly is another daughter. There is a spot for her int he census of 1830. Here's what I have so far on this family group. I have "?" where I have not fully proven the relationship, but feel strongly that the fit is there. Children of ISAAC DECKER and ELIZABETH DEYO are: i. GILBERT DECKER7 ?, b. 02 Aug 1808, Prattsville, Greene Co, NY; d. 08 Mar 1874, Westkill, Greene Co, NY. He married CHRISTINA SCHEFFER. She was born 03 Oct 1809, and died 04 May 1891 in Westkill, Greene Co, NY. Notes for GILBERT DECKER ?: Likely the son of Isaac and Elizabeth Deyo - the other brothers of Isaac (John D, Laurens and Derick, already have sons named Gilbert) More About GILBERT DECKER ?: Burial: Westkill ME Church, Greene Co, NY More About CHRISTINA SCHEFFER: Burial: Westkill ME Church, Greene Co, NY Child of GILBERT ? and CHRISTINA SCHEFFER is: i. He married SARAH SOULE, daughter of JACOB SOULE and MARIE. She was born 15 Jul 1818, and died 05 Feb 1876 in Prattsville, Greene Co, NY9. Notes for JOHN H. That being the case (and I do now recall seeing Gertrud/Geertruy as Charity in English), I submit that John Brandow married Gertrud, da/o of Gysbert Decker and Catalyntje Spoor. I hadn't a spouse for her. This would meand that her brother John Decker, married Maria Brandow, apparently John Brandow's sister. Saartjen and Sara are equivalent names. Charity is not. The Dutch variant is usually Gerretje. Sometimes Geertruy, where Geertruy is a corruption of Gerretje, less likely where Geertruy really is a Geertruy. Here we go again! In the will of John Brandow of Ashland Probated October 9, 1854, there is listed a daughter, Harriet Benjamin. I have Jehiel Benjamin, 1822 - 1855 buried next to his parents, Joseph Benjamin and Mary Cole, in the Mountain Valley Cemetery. Jehiel was married to a Harriet, and had 3 children, one being Martha b.1847. I believe this Harriet is Harriet Brandow, and the daughter is named after Harriet's mother Martha Betts. After Jehiel died, Harriet remarried to Samuel Cole b. 1808 from Lexington, who is somehow related to Mary Cole, but I can't find the connection yet. John Brandow's son Eli was the father of Abigail Brandow, and was Harriet's brother. Abi Brandow was married to Charles Ingalls, Joseph Benjamin's nephew.
Does anyone out there know where John Decker and mary Brandow moved to? I see them in the 1820 census and then they are gone. I am also assuming that Charity may be a sister to John Decker. Thoughts? Sylvia
I have in my file Cornelius Schermerhorn b. 27 Jan 1776 in Kinderhook. He died 7 Dec 1864 in Cairo, NY. I only have 2 children for him and Catherine Brandow, namely John William b. 26 Jan 1812 and Henry Ostrander b. 10 Jul 1815. I have no dates for Catherine so if anyone has found a stone reading for her, much appreciated. ([email protected])

http://members.cox.net/trm/SchermerhornFolmsbee.htm This family was heavy at the Muitzeskill Church - - the son Cornelius .... he could be yours if a second marriage occurred. The John Schermerhorn who married Charity Schermerhorn - was at the church a year or two before your marriage in 1811. jack

As a youngster I saw the monument many times from Mollie Smith's and my father would point it out to me and tell me the story about it. Of all the mountain walking I have done I never got to the monument. Now I am too old and physically impaired to make it there. I would take a look at the 1790 census and see if there are Schermerhorns with an E for a first name.to my knowledge there aren't any. The name Evart/Evartson is possible. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of jennifurschultz Sent: Friday, January 30, 2009 7:13 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [NYGREENE] Cornelius Schermerhorn of Coxsackie Is there any chance that any of these men/brothers could have been the father of Cornelius E. Jennifer Schultz Middleburgh, NY In a message dated 01/29/09 13:39:19 Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: I attribute the Cornelius Schermerhorn and John H Schermerhorns at Coxsackie in 1775 who signed the Declaration of Independence of Coxsackie as being brothers and sons of Henry Schermerhorn. In 1788 the tax lists at Coxsackie ( thank you Sylvia) show Jacob and John but no Cornelius. The children of john and Cornelius are entered into the Zion Lutheran church all thru the 1750 -1780 range. Jacob belonged to the RDC church at Coxsackie and he married Rachel Gardenier then moved away before 1790. Did Cornelius die before 1788 or move off ??? he was the younger of the brothers by quite abit. There are very few death records from Coxsackie at this period - looks like marriages and baptisms were the order of the day. any sign of Cornelius who married Annatje (ver) Planck dieing at Coxsackie or Loonenburg ?? In 1790 Cornelius is not at Catskill or Coxsackie. In the R Schermerhorn genealogy - the Abraham and Annatje attributed to Cornelius look to me like the children of Jacob Schermerhorn according to the RDC records.
