Perhaps you already have an answer to your question, but on my database I have John H. Post, s/o of Peter A. Post and Sally Ann Grant. I probably found it online somewhere so don't have proof to back it up, but may be something to look into. Have one wife as Margaret A. Longendyck. I have a sister Marietta, b. 1836. I found this at the Greene County Website History of Greene County Section 3 John Adams became a teacher of district schools, studied law, and in 1810 was appointed Surrogate of Greene County by Daniel D. Tompkins. He was a Federalist, and, forming a co-partnership; with Malbone Watson (afterward Judge Watson), removed to Catskill. Borthwick #13 ....the Counties of Columbia, Greene and Schoharie were constituted the Eighth Congressional District, and in 1833 John Adams represented this District in Congress for the full term. -----Original Message----- From: Gene & Eileen Eiklor <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Thu, 5 Mar 2009 8:36 am Subject: Re: [NYGREENE] John Adams Thanks. I might have half an answer: Geneva NY Gazette WEDNESDAY, JANUARY.17, 1816 The seat of John Adams, (from Greene county, in this State) is vacated in the House of Representatives, and Erastus Root, a democrat, declared entitled to it. And this: Buffalo NY Evening Courier and Republic 1875 Friday Evening, Sept.10, 1875 Windham, Greene County, sets up a pretty good claim to the oldest married couple in the state. John Adams and wife have travelled along together for 74 years, and still think as much of each other as on the morning that knot was tied. -----Original Message----- From: Gene & Eileen Eiklor <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Wed, 4 Mar 2009 2:49 pm Subject: [NYGREENE] John Adams Besides John Adams being an attorney and possibly a judge, does anyone know when he served as a representative to the federal House of Representatives? Besides John Adams being an attorney and possibly a judge, does anyone know when he served as a representative to the federal House of Representatives? Gene Eiklor
John Adams was an attorney in Greene County, New York in the 1820's and 1830's. Does anyone know if he became a Judge in the County, and if so, what was the Court he served? I am guessing he was a Judge in the 30's and was in the Court of Common Pleas. Thanks, Gene Eiklor
One summer, between semesters, I worked at the front gate ticket booth. What a fun job! I got to know Kathy while working there. Unfortunately, I came down with infectious mononucleosis toward the end of summer and just as they were getting ready to open the photo booth near the entrance, which was to be my new assignment. I moved to New Jersey, but we always made the trip home in the summer and there was a rare summer when we did not take the children to the Game Farm for a day. That was always a highlight of our visit. My sister and my nephew both worked there at different times, too. How sad that it is gone. I know I have some photos of the children feeding and interacting with the animals, which I will send to Sylvia later today. Hi Sylvia, My father (photographer and electrician) installed the original public address sound system at the Catskill Game Farm so that Roland Lindemann could broadcast music over the grounds and make public announcements. My dad took me to the Game Farm with him on occasion when he would meet with Mr. Lindemann.. Living in Catskill, we went there as a family several times over the years as I was growing up, then later my husband and I took our children there when they were growing up. We went usually once a year, and it was always a great destination for a day's family outing. It was truly the end of an era when it closed, since I had been going there since childhood. I'll look over my photos and see what I have from visits to the Game Farm. Sylvia Magin **************A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps! I am searching for additional information on the following families Philo Snyder born about 1836 in Greene County son of Phillip Snyder and Margarett Hood, they lived in Durham. I have not found a marriage for Philo to Catherine A Mabie, together they had a child Ashley Burr Snyder. Catherine is the daughter of Gilead Mabee/Mabie and unknown mother. Phillip Snyder born about 1801 in Columbia County parents unknown Margarett Hood born about 1802 in Greene County parent unknown Their children Elizabeth Snyder b 1833 Philo Snyder b 1836 Dean Snyder b 03 Apr 1839 Nelson Snyder b. 1841 d. 26 Sep 1863 Martin Luther Demerest Snyder b. 1844 d. 10 Mar 1863 Enos Eugene Snyder b. 1846 Caroline M Snyder b 1849 Ela Snyder b 1852 Ellen O Snyder b. 1853 >From the census I believe that Phillip may have owned the Snyder mill that was listed on the Greene County map (I don't remember the year of the map) Family story is that Philo was a triple and the 2 brother's names were Philander and Philip. From the census it appears that the mother was deaf. I also found a newspaper article that has Philo and a woman Susan Potter being arrested in Coxsaekie, Greene county on charges of stealing a horse and wagon from Sringfield, MA in 1866. Any information on Susan Potter may be of help. I believe Philo died in Troy in 1894, and 1870 he is living with Jane E Porter and her children in Troy. I do not know if there is a connection here or not. Catherine A Mabie born Apr 1840 moved to Lewis by 1860 with Ashley and is living with her sister's family. She continues to live Lewis or Jefferson county Ashley Burr Snyder born 09 Sep 1857 in Greene County Gilead Mabee/Mabie born about 1800 in Schoharie County d. 1884 in Erie, Pa His children are Laura Phebe Mabie b 05 Aug 1828 Margaret Rosina Mabee b. Bryant, b. 1825, d. 1899 I am interested in finding Phillip and Margarett's parents, death dates, where they are buried. Anything on their children would be great. I am looking for Gilead's first wife and her family, I have more information on his family. Thank you, Deb Waite
