    3. Progressive Batavian Batavia, Genesee County, New York State March 26-1875 Ghastly Accident.-On Friday last a little four year old son of Fred SUNRIKER, of Elba, while out in the yard playing with a butcher knife, in some way gouged it into the corner of his right eye so as to throw the ball of the eye out upon the cheek. Dr. WARNER, who was immediately called, put the eye back to its place, sewed up the gash and dressed the wound; and it is now hoped the eye can be saved. * Linden. - Nehemiah STEVENS of Bethany, met with a severe accident the 19th inst. He was in the woods with his son Walter drawing logs. His son was driving the team and Mr. STEVENS was walking near and beside the hind end of the log, when the sleigh slowed and the log struck his leg, breaking both bones below the knee. We understand it is a very bad fracture, and will probably lay him up for some time. Bad luck for Nehemiah, for he has a thousand maple trees that will soon require his care and attention when the sweet nectar begins to flow. be patient, Nehemiah, and keep as still as possible. Oscar PRESCOTT, while assisting his brother-in-law, Seth LINCOLN, in removing the ice from the dam at the time of the late flood, met with an accident which might have proved serious had not Mr. LINCOLN had the presence of mind to throw him a rope. Oscar fell in--took a good cold sousing--went under--but was rescued in the above manner. Oscar, be more careful, in the future, when around the water, if you have just joined the Good Templars. We understand James CAVANAUGH of Bethany came home from Batavia one day last week, and fell out of his buggy and broke his arm. A sad affair happened near Wright's Corners, in Middlebury, on Saturday night last, the 2d inst. Mr. Elinas DeWOLF's barn with its contents of hay, grain, farming tools, &c., was burned to the ground, and , worst of all, a valuable horse, a yoke of fat oxen, and two nobles cows perished in the flames. We understand the barn and its contents were fully insured; also the live stock, -the horse at $200, the oxen at $230, and the cows at $50 each. Mr. DeWOLF had just leased his farm, and had advertised his personal property at auction, the sale to take place on Monday last. It is thought to be the work of an incendiary. * submitted by Linda Schmidt *********************************************
