In searching for a Patriot for my father, I had to rule out the Underhills. They were Loyalists from Winchester County, NY. However, I hit paydirt with the Rider family! This is what I have: John Rider (Ryder), 1732-1812. He was a private in the 2nd Regiment, New York Line, three years service. He also served in at least one militia group out of Dutchess County, NY. His daughter Esther A. Rider married John Underhill. Their son, Arza Underhill (1811-1901), of Alabama, NY, would be my father's great-grandfather. So... Here's a Patriot in the family! What else might you folks know about the Riders?
