Hello, I am new on this list and I am wondering if anyone can help me with my gr. grandfather Robert Ellis. According to his Civil War records he was born in Bethany, Genesee Co., but before the 1860 census I have not been able to find out where he was. I have just received his death certificate and it states that his father was Ezekiel Ellis and his mother Maria Rapp. The 1830 census for Bethany states that Ezekiel was living there but of course that is some 12 years before Robert was born. I know that the censuses were very sketchy in that time, but perhaps some one else on this list is searching for the same information that I am.
