Hello, I know a bit about the Slocums. Sarah Elizabeth Slocum was born 3 Feb 1834, in Richmond, Washington, RI. Her father was Peleg Slocum b. 12 June 1773, of Dartmouth, Bristol Co., Mass, died 2 Feb 1849 in Darien, Genesee, NY. her mother was Ruth Hill b. aft 1770, of Pauling, duchess, NY and died 20 May 1834, location unknown (must have been Richmond, RI. Ruth Hill married Peleg Slocum 13 Feb 1791 in Pawling, Duchess, NY. I know all this because Sarah Slocum was living with my gggrandfather Lucius Halen Yates b. 1804 and his wife Sarah Bugbee b. 1804. Lucius and Sarah must have taken Sarah Slocum in after her father died. The Darien New York Census of 2 Sep 1850 shows Sarah Slocum living with the Yates family in Darien at the age of 15.
