    3. Ginny, I've been workinh on this and need some more information. From the book: Elijah Slocum was born Feb 2,1770 in what would later be Pawling,Duchess Cty,NY. He moved to White Creek, Washington Ctty, NY and there amrried June 27,1793 Hannah Preston who was born April 13,1771. They settle on a farm in Cambridge, Washington Cty, NY where they die - she Dec 2, 1848 and he Feb 15,1850. They had 7 children, all girls. Where did you see that he was in Van Buren County? I can locate Aaron and William in the 1880 census, Florecne and Anna D. (Anice) in the online biographies of Van Buren County for Edwin P. And Samuel J. Orton but can't find any trace of Job anywhere. Where did you find him? I have a few proabable connections in the book but I could use some more infomration. The 1850 VB Cty census has no Slocums , I got the online VB Cty marriage records and the 1880 census and can put together some families there but not necessarily those in your list. What connection do the names on your list have (versus all the marriage or census list)? By the way my relatives Merrick Monroe Slocum went from Lewis Cty NY to Barry Cty Mi. 2. Leilani & Ray Spring
    3. I was going to respond to each question separately BUT since there are so many, I am writing a message to the maillist. 1. The Indexes thus far that I have submitted only pertain to names in the newspapers. However, I am also transcribing place/subject articles and will probably get them added soon. 2. Look at the individual item (View) and you will see that you can contact Sue Conklin, the Genesee County Historian for copies of any articles you are looking for. There is an e-mail address available history@co.genesee.ny.us - she will then provide you with the current prices. I hope everyone will enjoy the Indexes. I have just completed 1917-1920 so it should be on-line shortly. Leilani Spring

    3. I checked it out and just received a note back from the Genesee County History Department and Records Management from history@co.genesee.ny.us and here are the fees: DAILY NEWS ARTICLES Fees for copies: Quarter Column or smaller = $5 Full Column = $10.00 Half a page = $15.00 Full page = $30.00 Prices cover staff time, printing fees and postage. There is a form to fill out, which is somewhat confusing because it asks the article headline, date of article and page (if known). The index gives a person's name, date of article, a "topic," and sometimes a page number, but no headline. The department asks you to fill in the form, send it in, and they will provide you with the cost. Once they receive payment, they will copy and send the articles. Hope this helps. 3. Perry, Sorry, the Slocum book doesn't list any of Ruth Hills parents. Penny, The Slocum book lists Sarah Slocum as the grandaughter of Peleg Slocum and Ruth Hill. It lists her as the daughter of Eleazer Slocum b. March 8 1796 and Sarah Marshall whom married Jan 12, 1818. It lists Sara' s siblings as Marshall who moved to Conway, MI; Allen who moved to Kansas and Mariette who married Jonathon Haver and moved to Vernon, MI. It says Sarah died at age 18. I don't have any knowledge of this other than my copy of the book but if Ruth Hill was Sarah's mother she had her when she was 64. Janet

    1. [NYGENESE] POINTers WNY Chapter #5 March Meeting
    2. Hello, As the new president of PIP WNY Chapter #5 I would like to wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year! Hopefully this “deep freeze” we are now having will be behind us by our first meeting in March.  Speaking of our first meeting, I am happy to tell you that it will be our traditional Sicilian St. Joseph’s Day Feast.  The Romanello’ s Roseland will be celebrating St. Joseph's Day on a Sunday this year and I hope to see everyone there.  Please bring a guest(s) as in my opinion Romanello’ s does an excellent job of portraying a true St. Joseph’s Day Feast in the WNY area.  Your guests will enjoy! Just a reminder, that it is time to renew your membership for 2004.  The membership fee is $10.00 and I’m sure Debbie Delgato would be happy to take care of this at the meeting. The following are the details for the March meeting: Date:               Sunday, March 21, 2004 Place:              Romanello’s Roseland Restaurant                         490 Rhode Island St., Buffalo, NY                         (1-Block West of Richmond Ave.) Time:              1:00 PM Theme:           Includes our traditional St. Joseph’s Table menu Cost:               $18.50 Contact:          Please RSVP by March 12, 2004, to Debbie Delgato at:                         716-688-0159                         dvd96@aol.com   Ellie Novara President PIP WNY Chapter #5

    3. Hello, I know a bit about the Slocums. Sarah Elizabeth Slocum was born 3 Feb 1834, in Richmond, Washington, RI. Her father was Peleg Slocum b. 12 June 1773, of Dartmouth, Bristol Co., Mass, died 2 Feb 1849 in Darien, Genesee, NY. her mother was Ruth Hill b. aft 1770, of Pauling, duchess, NY and died 20 May 1834, location unknown (must have been Richmond, RI. Ruth Hill married Peleg Slocum 13 Feb 1791 in Pawling, Duchess, NY. I know all this because Sarah Slocum was living with my gggrandfather Lucius Halen Yates b. 1804 and his wife Sarah Bugbee b. 1804. Lucius and Sarah must have taken Sarah Slocum in after her father died. The Darien New York Census of 2 Sep 1850 shows Sarah Slocum living with the Yates family in Darien at the age of 15. Hope this info helps someone out there. 3. I saw your post about Moses Hill and noticed one child was Slocum Hill. Do you know where the SLOCUM came from? I looked in my Slocum Book and found Peleg Slocum b1773 married Ruth Hill in Pawling, Dutchess County, NY; they moved to Columbia County about 1811 and then moved to Darien, Genessee County where they died. That doesn't seem like the connection. Do you know what it is? Janet

    3. Hello, I am new on this list and I am wondering if anyone can help me with my gr. grandfather Robert Ellis. According to his Civil War records he was born in Bethany, Genesee Co., but before the 1860 census I have not been able to find out where he was. I have just received his death certificate and it states that his father was Ezekiel Ellis and his mother Maria Rapp. The 1830 census for Bethany states that Ezekiel was living there but of course that is some 12 years before Robert was born. I know that the censuses were very sketchy in that time, but perhaps some one else on this list is searching for the same information that I am. I will certainly appreciate any help or information that anyone has. Thank you. Cynthia Ellis California
