John Welch and Bridget Clarke and/or Bridget Mullarky Children: Michael - born Ireland <1860> Thomas - born Ireland <1862> Mary - born England <1864> Anne - born England <1865> John - born NY <1868> Margaret - born NY <1870> Ella/Helen - born NY <1872>) John and Bridget are in the Johnstown census starting in 1870. In 1880, they are living on Glebe Street. In the 1890's the Welch family is living at 310 Glebe Street. In 1900 and 1910, Bridget/widow is still living at 310 Glebe. I have found the following newspaper article: "Utica Daily Express February 25, 1891 A Man killed at Cranberry Creek Johnstown Feb 24 - John Welch, a Johnstown laborer, while on his way to work o the new Sacondaga Park Hotel was killed by the cars at Cranberry Creek yesterday morning. He stepped from the train when it stopped at the station. When the cars started he attempted to step back and slipped and fell between the platform and the cars in such a manner as to be rolled over and over a distance of 25 feet. He was picked up unconscious and taken to the boarding house of Mrs. Keesegue at the park, where he was examined by Dr. J. F. Blake, of Northville. His ribs were crushed in and he sustained severe internal injuries. He died within half an hour after the accident. Welch was about 55 years old, a resident of this place and a mason. He was married and leaves a wife and seven children. His body was taken home on the afternoon train. John Byrne, a fellow employee, tried to catch Welch when he fell. He escaped with a badly bruised leg." I am researching my Welch family (gr grandmother Honora Welch King) and, trying, desperately, to find any of her siblings. My interest is that this Welch family lived next door to the family of John Barnes (mason). John Barnes was married to Margaret King, daughter of Honora Welch King King Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
