My father and grandfather knew him well. Nice quite gentleman, and the strongest man I have ever seen, My grandfolks were making a local move and Art moved them. They were on the second floor and the staircase down was very narrow. The had one of those old monsterous Kalamzoo kitchen ranges. There was not room but for one person on the stairs. Arthur put a strap around it, went down a ways, and two of his men heaved up on his back - AND HE CARRIED DOWN BY HIMSELF ! Looked in the census, on line. In 1920 he was 27, wife Anna 25, son Arthur 11/12. George was 52, wife Hanna 57, son John? 21. Hanah citizen Nov 1881.(born Ireland) Charles H. 56, wife Frances 49, son Harry H. 20, Arthur C. 19, Dgt Freda 14. So looks like maybe Art was son of George an Hannah. The Gloversville Public Library has a historical room upstairs that has copies of the city directories for every year since the 1800's. That would give you all Leggins in the city. The county records are in the county clerks office in Johnstown (which is adjacent to Gloversville). Somewhere I have the County Historians address if you need it. There was a very small Black population there when we were growing up. Most lived on Wells St,Thompson Ave, and Washington St. I'd bet that any of the older ones there now would have the info you want. They were all close and great people. Let me know how you make out. Art was one of those people you never forget. Charles
