    1. Vital Records from abt 1790 to 1850, My Brick Wall Montgomery and Fulton County, HELP!
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/gRB.2ACE/1185.1.1 Message Board Post: Hello List, Thank you for answering my post, I didn't realize it was going to be posted to the mailing list. But since it has.......I would appreciate a insightful look. I was looking for ANY information to help me remove this huge stop in my Families genealogy. I am searching for the Vital records and or some other information that could help. Any leads how to retrieve any information will be helpful. = = = = = = = = = = What I know now is my ancestor Alva McCrary was born in Montgomery, New York. about 1811-1816 I have a marraige record that says his father was Jacob McCrary. I have census records for the town of Oppenheim in Montgomery now Fulton County, NY. 1820 census, Montgomery County, Town of Oppenheim Jacob McCrary -1 male, 16-26 years old 3 females, under 10 years old 1 female, 16-26 years old 1810 census, Montgomery County, town of Upenheim John McCrary-1 male, 16-25 years old 1 male, 45 or older 2 females, under 10 1 female, 10-15 years old 1 female, 26-44 years old Township of Oppenheim is located in what is now Fulton County, and just west of the town of Gloversville on state route 29. I have been told that Alva's father Jacob McCrary m. Roxy Barnes....(2nd?) I have a record from St Johns Church about Alva's grandfather that says: John McCrary (Spelled Macreny in the St. Johns Church Records) Page 83 1793 Parentes John Macreny, Palatine, Christina Macreny; 22th 8bris Infantes Margretha, born the 27th Novb. 1784; Sally, born the 28th Novbr. 1787; Eva, born the 14th Januar; Testes Peter Ris, Elisabeth Stamm; Andreas Palsli, Lea Palsli. I have searched all the records, that I know are available and have been searching for about 15 years............Started with mailings.......not e-mail. What happened to his cousins Aunts and siblings? Where can I find information on the death marraige and confirmations. Did the records burn in a fire? I have really no Idea what to do! I was told that maybe mccrary or the some of the family had lived in Broadalbin and or Mindenville at some point in time. Can some one tell me what records are available for the area.........For McCrary, Keeeler and Barnes? Is there a town historian for Oppenheim? Are there Plat maps and land grants? Register of deeds? Any help is appreciated! Best regards Kurt

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/gRB.2ACE/1373.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I think his outfit was just Arthur Leggins Trucking. I was just a kid. My father and grandfather knew him well. Nice quite gentleman, and the strongest man I have ever seen, My grandfolks were making a local move and Art moved them. They were on the second floor and the staircase down was very narrow. The had one of those old monsterous Kalamzoo kitchen ranges. There was not room but for one person on the stairs. Arthur put a strap around it, went down a ways, and two of his men heaved up on his back - AND HE CARRIED DOWN BY HIMSELF ! Looked in the census, on line. In 1920 he was 27, wife Anna 25, son Arthur 11/12. George was 52, wife Hanna 57, son John? 21. Hanah citizen Nov 1881.(born Ireland) Charles H. 56, wife Frances 49, son Harry H. 20, Arthur C. 19, Dgt Freda 14. So looks like maybe Art was son of George an Hannah. The Gloversville Public Library has a historical room upstairs that has copies of the city directories for every year since the 1800's. That would give you all Leggins in the city. The county records are in the county clerks office in Johnstown (which is adjacent to Gloversville). Somewhere I have the County Historians address if you need it. There was a very small Black population there when we were growing up. Most lived on Wells St,Thompson Ave, and Washington St. I'd bet that any of the older ones there now would have the info you want. They were all close and great people. Let me know how you make out. Art was one of those people you never forget. Charles

Through a website for Fulton County NY I found quite a few people with the name of Leggins, so it might be possible. I do know that my great-greatgrandmother's name was Hannah Murphy and she originated from Ireland. She married a George Leggins who was black/mulatto and lived in Gloversville/Johnstown NY. My great-grandmother was their daughter Nellie, and she married Fred Archer and lived/died in Binghamton NY. I do know that my greatgrand's sisters and brothers continued to live in Upstate NY, so I believe it should be easy to find family members, I just need a starting point. Where does/did Art live and do you remember the name of his trucking company? Thanks

There is an 1868 map of Broadalbin with surnames - very interesting and helpful to me in my research. I found it in the eBay store for HistoricalTownMaps.com and Broadalbin is spelled "Broad Albin". There is another map a panoramic map of Broadalbin listed as 1880, but the town historian has assured me that while it is a map of Broadalbin - its not a map of 1880. Also on eBay for $12.95 - just search for Broadalbin... Hope this helps and Good luck Karen

James and Hannah Tyler were also living in Broadalbin at that time. He died in 1841 at age 71 and she predeceased him in 1837. Milton and family moved on to Ontario, Wayne County where he died in 1852. Also found in the 1840 Census for Broadalbin is Charles B. Tyler, aged 30-40 years. I am seeking the relationship of these Tylers. Are Milton and Charles brothers? Are James and Hannah their parents? What is their ancestry?

I don't know how you made out with your petition to the county, but if they need someone to do maintenance of the cemetery and repairs of the stones, we do it as a business. We are conducting a cemetery repair workshop in Haines Falls (Greene County) on August 5, 2006. Come on over or send someone from the county. Bill Haines
