Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.fulton/2492/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Board, Are there any genealogist out there? I am looking for ANY! information on The McCRARY-McCREERY family and the LUCKEY and Barnes family of Fulton County. Who there parents were and who there children were! Can anyone help me to figure this out? I am no longer on Ancestry.com so I am not sure they have any further information than what I already know, or think I know? John McCREERY - McCRARY came to Palatine about 1795 I believe his brother Joseph McCREERY SR. came some time later. Joseph MCCREERY JR. born 8 APR 1814 in the Finger lakes region in Brutus, Cayuga Co., New York d. 2 DEC 1892 in Elgin, Kane County. or Cook County?, Illinois. Joseph was of a M. E. family, He was also the nephew of(REV.) Dr. Samuel Lucky. Joseph was the Son of REV. Joseph MCCREERY Sr. b: 1790 d.1859 and Jane LUCKEY b: 1792 d.1859 and the grandson of John McCREARY. His father Methodist REV. Joseph McCREERY SR. b. abt 1790 m. Jane LUCKEY she was the sister the famous Methodist REV, Samuel LUCKEY . Both Joseph SR. and Samuel lived in Fulton County, NY, at some point between, at least 1820-1830 and and ministered to Broadalbin among other areas in their career. In the 1830 Census for Montgomery County it lists a Rev. JOSEPH McCREERY in Johnstown, MONTGOMERY COUNTY, NY and is mentioned in the History of Montgomery/Fulton County in the town of Glen and Broadalbin. Joseph SR. probably had more children than just Joseph and possibly are the McCeerys that were still there in the 1850 census index. But by 1840 it looks as if Joseph SR. is living in Chemung County. Joseph McCREERY JR. graduated from Wesley University in Middletown, Conn. which was founded in 1831. Was a celebrated and well known Methodist Minister. His expulsion and that of Mr. Roberts of the Methodist Church lead to the formation of the the Free Methodist Church. After "the 5 year, much to do", Joseph was reinstated on probation to the M.E. Church, and was accepted back in Spencerport, NY 1860. After the conference and being reinstated sometime after 1862 he went west, pioneering the frontier, soon after living in the State of Illinois. =================================----- 1810 census, Montgomery County, town of Upenheim (Oppenheim) John McCrary-1 male, 16-25 years old 1 male, 45 or older 2 females, under 10 1 female, 10-15 years old 1 female, 26-44 years old Township of Oppenheim is located in what is now Fulton County, and just west of the town of Gloversville on state route 29. ==============================--------- 1810 United States Federal Census John Mccrary city, Montgomery, NY ===============================-------- 1820 census, Montgomery County, Town of Oppenheim Jacob McCrary -1 male, 16-26 years old 3 females, under 10 years old 1 female, 16-26 years old ================================= 1830 Census McCrary Jacob Montgomery County 249 Oppenheim Joseph Rev Montgomery County 198 Johnstown Does this census list his children? ================================================ 1830 U.S. Federal Census Jacob Mccrary, Montgomery, New York ========================================= 1840 United States Federal Census Joseph McCrary, Chemung, New York Does this census list his children? ========================================== NO CENSUS RECORDS FOR MCREERY OR MCCRARY IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY NY 1840? ========================================== 1850 census How or is this family related? Name: James Mccrery farmer assets 800.00 Age: 55 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1795 Birth Place: New York Gender: Male Home in 1850 : Johnstown, Fulton, New York Robert McCrery 18? abt 1822 occupation Carpt? Mary McCrery 18? abt 1822 Margret McCrery 17 John McCrery abt 1836 14 all b. NY He married Sidney BARNES b: 15 APR 1819, New Jersey, but likely lived in the Mohawk Valley area of New York, possibly in Montgomery or Fulton County. ==================================================== ============== Interesting notes and Conflict ============== It is interesting to note that Jacob McCRARY (son of John McCREERY) and Joseph McCREERY Jr. Who lived only a few miles apart. (Would be 1st cousin both close to the same age) both married daughters of John BARNES. Jacobs wife Roxy BARNES McCREERY BURKE says her father John BARNES was born RI and John BARNES was a Lieut. in Capt. Strongs Company enlisted. August 13, 1776 in the Revolutionary War. Josef JR's wife SIDNEY BARNES McCREERY also says her father is John Barnes. There is a John BARNES in the History of Montgomery and Fulton Counties, mentioned. There is a conflict in the Wives of John McCREERY b. abt 1760's, In Montgomery records it states His wife was named Christina, In the descendant of Joseph McCREERY it lists ANNA as his wife in ORANGE/ULSTER COUNTY. and in the Genealogy the Grandfather of Joseph MCCREERY SR. It lists John MCCREERY b: 1762 d: 1832 Margaret MCDONALD b: 1763 d: 1824. It might be assumed that he had 3 wives, or one of the names is actually a middle name. This needs to be checked out. Its also interesting to note that in Josephs JR's Genealogy, John McCREERY d. 1832 was the same year I had for Jacob McCRARYs death. I assume that the other records for the county that List a John McCRARY are that of his Grandfather who may have moved to Tompkins County, NY in between 1810 and 1820 where he died around 1832 or 1840. (But Conflict in wives and death dates) ===================================================== New York Daily Tribune Location: New York, NY 30 August 1842 MARRIED: At Kingsboro, Fulton Co., N.Y., August 24, Samuel LUCKEY, of this city, to Mary H. GORDON, daughter of Mr. Othniel GORDON, of the former place. (In 1860 Census lists a Samuel Luckey,b. about 1824 living in Monroe County, NY) possibly Samuels son.

    3. Hi Cousin Pat, You are too good !! Yes, I have been to Saltsmans restaurant several times for a fine meal. As you know we are related to them somehow., although the Saltsmans who ''owned'' the resterant, ... no longer own it. They sold out to a family of Subicks, one of several Subick sons. Its still called Saltsmans, but the ownership has changed. You mentioned the ''Three Rivers '' Web site. No, I'm sorry I know nothing about it. Perhaps you will share the web address with me ??? Sound like an interesting place. You have received my e-mail response to the young man who inquired about the BOSTWICK/ SALTSMAN connection on the Fulton Site. I rcognized it as some of our greater local family there. I copied you, with my rely to Alan Saltsman. We have quite lenthy Saltsman connections, several families I think. I rember the Fulton List is how you and I got connected, because you saw my query about the Smith family and Clara Maes father. Smitty the Baker. I sure do thank you for that. I've had such fun corresponding with her, and he cousin Arlene Jons Sitterly. Its been just wonderful having those cousins to get aquainted with, and I owe it all to you and your introduction. Thank you Pat. You are an Artist ! Best wishes to you all.
