Deanna, do you have John Robert Stewart? He died Nov 1815 at Sackets Harbor, Jefferson County. He is the son, third child, of Robert & Jane Wilson Stewart who lived on a farm near Sammonsville just outside Johnstown, NY who had a total of 12 children. John Robert had three children Christina, Jane & Robert L. I'm looking for information on the family of Elizabeth Burton (1784-bef. 1860), widow of William Burton. Both came to NY's Montgomery Co. from England and lived there in 1830 and 1840. In 1850 Elizabeth lived in Johnstown with her daughter Mary Burton, who was married to James Hale. Mary died before 1860 (as did Elizabeth), but Mary and James's sons William and John Edward and their daughter Libbie (Elizabeth) survived. Libbie Hale married Jacob Shutts in 1875. William's obit is on the Fulton Co. USGenWeb site. I have not found the burial place of Elizabeth or William Burton, although it is probably in Montgomery Co. I'm trying to verify that Elizabeth Burton was Elizabeth Toplis Burton, and I'm wondering if someone researching the Hale or the Shutts family might know for certain. Two other Toplis sisters from Derbyshire, England, also came to Fulton Co. - Dorothy Toplis married Benjamin Ripton, and they came to Johnstown in 1821. Both are buried in Johnstown. Cemetery. Lydia Toplis married James Hunter and came to Johnstown in 1842 with her chidlren after being widowed. She is also in Joihnstown Cemetery. Dorothy's son Henry Ripton married his cousin Anna Hunter, Lydia's daughter, and they are my great-great grandparents. If anyone has any information connecting this Elizabeth Burton to the Toplis family of Derbyshire, England, I'd really appreciate knowing about it. NOTE - I do not think that this Burton family is connected to the more prominent Jacob Burton family, which also lived in Fulton Co., but I could be wrong. Joanne Gaudio

I've noticed a few entries for Saratoga Co. also. Give me a name!
