Surnames: Abrams Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.fulton/2504/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Looking for information on Asa (Allie) Abrams, born 1866, Durham, Greene Co. NY, son of Henry & Ann Abrams. He married a woman by the Mary and they had "1" child, Lella (Lellah). They lived in "Gloversville" in 1900-1915 where he first was a machine operator then employed in a Glove shop. His wife made gloves as well. He then moved to "Cagoga" where in 1920's - 1930's he was a game warden for the town, taking care of injured, sick and orphant deer and other animals. I presume he and his wife are buried in the area. As for Lellah, she was a musician who played the harp, and lived with them in 1930 in "Caroga"

I looked there but none of the people of interest are listed. An obituary for Thomas Hill says he was interred in Prospect Hill and his father's death certificate says he was buried in Gloversville. I'm hoping that more Hill family members are there.

Betsy lived to be well into her 90's and was in more than her fair share of census documents...From 1850 to 1930 listed in each.

She said from Belden Corners Road cross over Lotville Road and you will be on Tiedman Road (a dirt road). The cemetery is located about 3/4 of a mile north on Tiedman. It is on the left side of the road, quite a distance back in a woodsy area on a knoll that is overgrown and abandoned. - Hope you know the area well enough to follow those directions. She has not yet returned to the cemetery to write down all the names. Hopefully, she'll be able to go in the Spring.

    1. [NYFULTON] George Toplis
    2. Joanne Gaudio
    3. Does anyone recognize the name GEORGE TOPLIS (also spelled Toplass, Topless, Toples)? He came to the US through New York in 1833 from Derbyshire, England. He was the brother of Elizabeth Toplis Burton (who came to Montgomery Co. with her husband William in 1832), of Dorothy Toplis Ripton (who came to Johnstown with her husband Benjamin Ripton in 1821) and of Lydia Toplis Hunter (who came to Johnstown with her children in 1842). The records in England confirm that George "went to America," I have his entry in the passenger lists, and I think it likely that he would go to the same area where two of his sisters already lived. However, I can't find any trace of him in the 1840 census anywhere (he could, of course, have been living with someone else) nor in the 1850 census. He was probably dead, but I just wondered if the name rang any genealogical bells for anyone in the Fulton-Montgomery area. Joanne Gaudio

    1. [NYFULTON] Roberson Family
    2. Richard Hayes
    3. Hi Jim, I saw that you were inquiring about a Roberson family from Broadalbin, NY. I am related to an Anthony Roberson who was the son of Daniel Roberson and Elisabeth Slingerland. Anthony was baptized in the Schenectady Reformed Church on 25 Jun 1771. I also have another person who may be a Roberson from Broadalbin. I have her name as Mary Jane Robertson. She was born about 1815 and married John Goodemote about 1835. They had a daughter, Mary Jane who was born 15 Mar 1842 and married Abraham Hart about 1858. Please let me know if you have any information on either of these families. Richard

    1. [NYFULTON] Tyler-Roberson Connection
    2. Jim Tyler
    3. Hello, I am back on the list after being away a few years. My interest is the Tyler-Roberson connection in Broadalbin circa 1836-1842. Gr-gr-grandfather Milton Tyler lived in Broadalbin after marrying Caroline Brown in Hartford, Washington, NY. Three of their four children were born in Broadalbin, the fourth in Ontario Center, Wayne, NY. That child, James Roberson Tyler became my gr-grandfather. The US Census for 1840 lists James Roberson two lines below Milton Tyler. Does that mean they were neighbors? I did find in a Fulton County history a profile of James Roberson indicating that he was a prominent man. Maybe Milton was a tenant as I do not believe he was a landowner. At the time Milton was in Broadablin there was a Hannah and James Tyler living there. By 1841 or 2 both had died and Milton removed to Ontario Center. Milton is my brick wall. I am seeking any information from Roberson descendants or anyone else about the Tyler-Roberson connection that might remove the brick wall. Thank you. Jim Tyler Syracuse, NY

    2. Albany Vital Records has death, records for 1919. Their records started about 1884 for birth, marriage and death. They weren't too good for a period of time because the rule was not enforced too well. You might contact them, of course, for a price to pull the death certificate which should have parents names on.
