    1. Re: [NYFULTON] Death Date - Johnstown
    2. I don't have it handy right now, but I suggest you go into keyword and fish around, with something like Albany NY archives, New York State Archives. I know you will find it. Have you also tried the mormon church web site I am going back there in August and will be in Albany eventually. If you don't have luck give me some facts and I can look and then you can proceed from there. I will be gone now from May 11-22 Pat H ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    1. [NYFULTON] Death Date - Johnstown
    2. Joanne Gaudio
    3. Please, can anyone help me with a death date in Johnstown. I've looked all over for an obit or something with no luck. Clarence Farmer RIPTON, born 24 Jun 1880, son of James H. Ripton and his first wife, Gertrude Farmer, and brother of former Johnstown mayor, Percy A. Ripton. Clarence F. Ripton married Catherine Emma Lair (1887-1966), daughter of Charles and Mary Lair, in Johnstown in 1908, and they lived there in 1930, when he said he was a grocery store manager, although it did not say in which store. An article I received from the Fulton Co. Historical Society about the Ripton Brothers Grocery Store's 40th anniversary in 1934 did not mention Clarence F.'s name, yet he was alive in 1936 when he was mentioned as a surviving nephew in my great-grandfather Benjamin Henry Ripton's obituary. Most of the family is buried at the Johnstown Cemetery, but he isn't on the online transcription. Does anyone know anything about this family? Thank you for any help. Joanne Gaudio

Here are a few more details on your grandmother's employment from my city directory collection: 1931, 1955, and 1957 directories show her employed by Scotsmoor, Inc (Manufacturer of knitted products) In 1966, she worked for Crescendoe's (Manufacturer of fabric gloves). Boyce-Lazarus is listed this year as a manufacturer of leather gloves. My home town was Gloversville and much of my family was employed in the glove industry at one time or another. No surprises in it. I either researched most of it or knew it from personal experience, but I am obviously still glad to have it. I knew that she worked in a glove factory in Gloversville all her life, but did not know any names for the factory or factories. The names given for her parents, Laverne and Lulu (WOOD) BOSTWICK, agree with my research. I knew that she married Lloyd SALTSMAN, but did not know the year. I had no idea what church she belonged to or that she had been cremated. The month and year listed for the death of her first child, Robert D. SALTSMAN is correct. This was a short ten years ago, but it seems like a lot longer. I made a short visit to her at her home in Johnstown a few weeks or months before she passed away.
