There were a few of them, whom after the Civil War, disappeared. I also wonder if George Bebar of the lynching story in Michigan is related somehow to the NY DeBar's I am researching. It says "a New York Yankee by the name of George DeBar" was killed by a crowd because he murdered a German farmer. There was a strong German influence in that area. When they found out he had killed the farmer, they tore him apart limb by limb, etc. (gross!) So, I will let you know if I find a solid connection.
