This is according to the article, "County townships' organizations dates" by Harold Brown which was in the Malone Evening Telegram, date unknosn. Since the largest village in the Town of Altamont was Tupper Lake, many people were often confused. In July of 2004, it was re-named as the town of Tupper Lake.
