There is a family story that was news to me, that someone in the family was in some sort of legal capacity to issue a death sentence;, either as a judge or in the military or as the executioner. The story goes that the death penalty was carried out in Canada between 1844-1865 or so. I've researched the family and I think if there was anyone who might have been in a capacity to impose or carry out a death sentence, it would have taken place not in Canada but in Franklin County, NY between 1865-1930. I believe this to be more likely because there were policemen and councilmen in the family at that time, but in the years prior in Canada, my family was full of poor farmers and servants. Is there a way to research executions in the State of NY, especially in Franklin County? Where would I begin to look? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
