Greetings from Tennessee! I am researching Herbert George Smith born Oct 5 1879 in Chateaugay, Franklin County, New York. This info came from an LDS file. It list his parents as Alex SMITH and Maria Elizabeth MARTIN. This was my grandfather. Somewhere in time he moved to Rochester, Monroe Co., New York. He married Lillian (Myrtle?) Van Buren . I am not sure of exact spelling of her last name, I have seen it so many different ways I am not sure who to spell it now. On his death cert it list his wife's name as Myrtle? This family had 12 children in Rochester, one being my mother. She was born in 1922. The family was taken away and placed in foster care when my mother was 6 months old. All of the children seemed to be scattered all over the city. Somewhere down the line Herbert and Lillian moved to Ohio (Cinn area, I think) and supposed to of had more children???? Herbert was killed in a car accident in Erie, Pa in the 30's. I am not sure of Lillian. Is there any one else out there searching for this family. Also would any of you know if or how I can obtain the welfare records of the children taken away. This has been a big puzzle in my family for many years. Any help is so greatly appreciated. THANKS!
