    2. Hello: I am still searching for the surnames TRUAX and McDERMOTT (McDERMAND, McDERMID). The 1850 Census lists only a Mary TRUAX - working at an Inn in Bombay, ranklin County. She is 20 and lists her place of birth as "C.W" Does this stand for Canada West?? If so, how can one find the Canadian Census for 1850?? The 1850 Census also lists Francis McDermid (page 228), and a Francis McDermad (page 240), with essentially the same names and ages of family (wife, sons and daughters). I am sure that this is the Francis McDermott that I am seeking from later Census data. At this census, Francis lists his place of birth as Ireland, and his wife (Nancy) as "C.E.". If indeed this is Canada East, - where does East Canada and West Canada begin/end?? The 1860 Census for Francis McDermont (as it is then spelled), lists his place of birth as "L. Canada". Where is the region known as "Lower Canada"? Also, living nearby (in the 1850 Census for Westville, Franklin County) to Francis McDermad (page 228) is a Joseph MOAX (a potential mispelling for TRUAX) -- Moax is how it looks to me in the wiritng of the names in the Census. The 1840 Census has a Francis McDermott living in Westville and a Jacob Truax living in Moira. Any knowledge on further research in Canada, or these surnames would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone requested/received probate or land information regarding farms in Franklin County? Thank you Bob White Chula Vista CA
