To all who are friends and relations of Mary Woodman, It is with saddened heart that I let you all know that my mother passed away yesterday evening. She asked me to reply to all her email messages, but I thought it might be easier to just email everyone on her address book. We wanted to let you know this way since she gets about 80 emails a day from all her genealogy friends and associates. She spent all her adult life recording our family history and helping others to be able to record their family histories. AS THE STORM WAS BLOWN AWAY AND THE SKIES TURNED A LIGHT BLUE GRAY, MARY PASSED ON FROM THIS WORLD PEACEFULLY IN HER SLEEP SURROUNDED BY HER DAUGHTERS. SHE WAS A BEAUTIFUL PERSON WHO FOUGHT A STRONG AND COURAGEOUS BATTLE THAT EVENTUALLY OVERCAME HER. SHE WAS A RESPECTED AND OFTEN SOUGHT AFTER GENEALOGIST IN THE NEW ENGLAND HISTORIC GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY, AMONG MANY OTHERS. SHE AUTHORED MANY "BRANCHES AND TWIGS" ARTICLES IN THE GENEALOGICAL ARCHIVES. SHE HAD MANY INTERESTS AND CAREERS BUT SHE MOST RECENTLY WAS EMPLOYED AT GIVENS ESTATES RETIREMENT HOME AS A UNIT SECRETARY. PRECEEDED IN DEATH BY HER FATHER ARTHUR JOHN PIERCE OF SYRACUSE, NY. SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER MOTHER: KARLEEN E. PIERCE OF SYRACUSE, NY. SHE IS ALSO SURVIVED IN ASHEVILLE, NC BY 4 LOVING DAUGHTERS: KRISTINE, KATHLEEN, SUSAN AND SANDRA WOODMAN AND 4 BEAUTIFUL GRANDCHILDREN: AMANDA, DIMITRI, KASIE AND SHAMARA. Other surviving relatives include a sister, Shirley Fiumara Quinn of Florida and her two brothers; Dr. John Pierce of Las Vegas, NV and Mark Pierce of Syracuse, NY; her cousin and closest lifelong friend; Jan Hayes of North Tonawanda and former brother-in-law, Al Fiumara of Syracuse, NY. Mary is also survived by many children and adults whom she "adopted" into her family: James Means, Shawn Williams, the entire Turreff family, Barbara Collett, Jennifer and Kassandra Tuttle, The Braham Family, Alicia and Jermaine Pelt and many, many, many others, too numerous the mention today. Mary and her family struggled with the debilitating effects of Emphysema. Donations or gifts may be made to the National Lung Association with the hopes that others will be helped. Mary was also involved in Pediatric A.I.D.S research and believed that this was a cause that needed everyone's attention. She will be forever loved and never forgotten. A private family memorial service will be held in Asheville in her honor.
