Sophia Minona Clark and Hardy Platte Streeter were married and living in Fort Covington, Franklin County, NY in 1850. They probably married between 1840 and 1843. Hardy Platte Streeter was one of the younger sons of Benjamin B. Streeter, who is buried in the old Ft. Covington Cemetery. There were Clark families in Franklin County in 1830 and 1840, does anyone know which of those families may have had a daughter named Sophia. I believe that she was born 23 March 1820 in Alburgh, VT, but I have not been able to identify her birth family/parents. Can anyone help me? Surname: Branchereau, Branchaud, Branchault, Branchaux, Brancho, Brancheau, Brashaw Hi Listers, I have been told by other researchers that my BRASHAW ancestors lived in Franklin County. I'm looking for information from researchers that might be researching similar lines. Please help me to fill in the gaps of my BRASHAW lineage. In my research of the Brashaw family, I have come across alot of nice people (Terry White, Marge Joan Otten, Walter Branchaud, Mike Cunningham etc.) that were willing to share their information with me. I'm going to display what information that I have on my family. Please share your information about the Brashaw family in Franklin Co. I deeply appreciate your time and effort. Since posting to the list yesterday I have found that if I simply type the county names in the title field and nothing else, I do get some results. My mistake was also typing in the word "history into the "other words" field. And while I'm at it, my primary interest in Franklin County is the fact that my gggrandfather is supposed to have been born there. His name was Daniel Lee AIKEN & his father's name was Calvin. Also, his mother was Susan DEBOW. I know where he spent most of his adult life but haven't been able to verify a birth place for him. Hi Everyone. While on the subject of books, there is quite a collection at the Cornell University online collection entitled "Making of America". The contents of each of the books listed is online at the site. The site address is: http://library5.library.cornell.edu/moa/ And while everyone is reading this message, a reminder that I am researching the names LYNCH, MCNEIL,TOWNER and TYO in Franklin County. Good luck to all! Richard Kearns
Hello to Sherry and Everyone on the List! Thanks Sherry. I bookmarked the Bibliofind site. It worked for me when I used the search term of Franklin County, New York. There is another site which does a national search of rare and collectible book stores, and that is abebooks.com at: http://www.abebooks.com/ I have seen a couple of books there that I was amazed to find! Sometimes the prices are amazing as well. Thanks again. Richard Kearns Northern California

Hi folks, Just came across something exciting, courtesy of Everton's. There is a site called "Bibliofind" which has access to over 10,000,000 old, rare, used books. You enter the title or author of the book you're looking for (I entered Franklin County New York and Clinton County New York) and a list of books pops up on the screen, ready for you to order. Here's five good titles I came across: ============================================================ ======== Seaver, Frederick J.: HISTORICAL SKETCHES OF FRANKLIN COUNTY (NY) AND ITS SEVERAL TOWNS, WITH MANY SHORT BIOGRAPHIES ; Author, Albany 1918, First Edition, 8vo, brown cloth, 819pp. Very scarce New York county history, good condition., Hyde, Floy S.: Water Over the Dam at Mountain View in the Adirondacks ; Mountain View, NY: The Author, 1970. Hi, List!! I have been trying-unsuccessfully-to borrow a copy of the 2 books written by Paula LaVoy-Trim. Every library that has a copy doesn't loan it out. Does anyone on the list have a copy of either of her books, and willing to do lookups? Thanks!! Linda in Lucas, OH
I would like to welcome those of you new to this site and tell you there are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. My sources are the following....... There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of some 13000 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. I would like to let you know of another service I offer which is to take photos of graves for a small fee. Please see my website which is dedicated to those who passed through the gates of Andersonville. http://www.angelfire.com/ga2/Andersonvilleprison/index.html I want to thank those of you who are regular subscribers and tolerate my frequent postings.. Bob: I would enjoy seeing this information on the Schneider Family as well. I have a Julia Schneider who was b. abt.1835 and d. abt. 1911. She married 1st/??? Perry and 2nd/ John Reardon, Sr. She had by her first husband a son named Andrew who took the Reardon name after she married John Reardon,Sr. abt 1864. With John, Sr. she had five children: John Jr., Teresea, Margaret, Hannah and Katherine Reardon. I have her parents listed as Jean-Baptiste(John) & Mary (???) Schneider/Snyder as found in the 1850 Federal Census Pg. 205 - Bombay, Franklin Co., NY. I hoping you may be able to help fill in some of my gaps. Sincerely: Carmon D. Bob, I sure would appreciate if you would share your information about Jean-Baptiste Schneider and his wife Matilda Domithele Brisbois and their thirteen children. This may give me more leads on my research about Brashaws. I appreciate you responding to my message. Best regards, Dean
Rikki, Thank you for responding to my message. The information you were willing to share with me about Batiste and Matilda (Brashaw) Snyder, and their son Gilbert m. to Elizabeth Bourdreau, definitely helps me in the research, of my mother's family the Brashaws. The Brashaw information I have so far has taken me through Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence Co., NY, and now I'm going through Franklin Co. Eventually I'll go through Canada and probably end up in France. The following information is what I know about my line of Brashaws. Descendants of Charles Brashaw 1 Charles Brashaw ......... 2 Morris Brashaw b: in Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence Co., New York d: 1888 in Bay City, Bay Co., Michigan ............. +Catherine July b: in Quebec, Canada .................... 3 Charles H. However, as I research the Brashaw family I'll be sure to let you know when I come across information about them. Once again thank you for sharing your information. Best regards, Dean
Dean, In researching my PROSSER, YADDOW, AND MYERS family history from Franklin County I have found the following information: 1. Batiste and Matilda (Brashaw) Snyder 2. Gilbert b: abt 1854 + Elizabeth Bourdreau b: abt 1858 I have no other information on Matilda. This information I have yet to verify but I do know that my grandmother, before she died, was writing out her grandparents names in order for a family history to be done. Batiste and Matilda (Brashaw) Snyder where in her writings as one of her grandparents. I am doing a history of PROSSER, YADDOW AND MYERS. Prosser is my mother's maiden name. Myers is my grandmothers maiden name and Yaddow is my greatgrandmother's maiden name. Brashaw comes in on the YADDOW side as my GG Grandfather (father to my g grandmother YADDOW) married Rose Ann Snyder who was a daughter to Gilbert and Elizabeth. Gilbert was a son to Batiste and Matilda (Brashaw) Snyder. If I can help let me know. I have information from Baptiste to Gilbert and from Gilbert to Rose Ann and from Rose Ann to me. Before that I have nothing. I do have some of Rose Ann's siblings names, so if I can be of any help let me know. If you feel that you may be of help to me then please also let me know. Anybody that is researching Franklin County, or surrounding counties, do you have any information about the BRASHAW/BRASEAU family? If so, your information of this family would be deeply appreciated. Thanks in advance, Dean
Hello again, Cousins!! After a reply to my last post asking about the 106th, I dug around and found a roster. Since this is from a paid database, I am volunteering to do lookups for your ancestors. Many are from St. Lawrence County, but some may be from Franklin. The rank, enlistment date, date signed up, town, and age at time, and some notes on the individual's service records are available. Please be patient, as I anticipate many requests. I will answer in the order received. Hugs, Happy Hunting, & Good Luck..........Linda in Lucas, Ohio
