    3. Sorry, but you are WAY too early to find either a death certificate or an obituary for Judith BEEDY. In New York State, birth - marriage - death records were not recorded until the early 1880s. Even then, it was voluntary at first and doctors in rural areas did not bother. As for obituaries -- unless the person was EXTREMELY prominent, it is unlikely that there is anything more than a simple death notice stating that she died & giving the date. (Although it is possible that it would state "died at the home of her son ... ") Have you tried contacting the Town Historian for Duane? You can contact him / her by writing: Town Historian Duane, NY (sorry, I checked the phone book for the zip & it's not listed!) Hope this helps. 2. Jim, If you see Ha Ha or snow white in an email, delete it, without opening it. If you have opened it, run you Anti-virus program to see if it's in your system. It is a virus that attaches itself to the address book of people using Microsoft mail and causes havoc on lists like this! Mac

    3. Greetings, I have recently discovered a tombstone inscription on a grave in Hoose Cemetery (aka Studley Hill Cemetery) in Duane. It reads: BEEDY, Judith died Jan. 7, 1839 age 74 yrs Wife of B. BEEDY This is possibly the mother of my *known* ancestor, Daniel A. BEEDY, who was living in Malone in 1840. What should I do, or who should I contact, to obtain a death record and/or obituary for Judith? Any help will be appreciated. Jack W. Ralph Carson City, NV

    3. Thanks to all who answered so promptly. Now I will tell you what I have on my family so far. Selena Olive (maybe FRENCH?) born in 1853 in Saranac Lake, New York. Her parents were also born in New York State. Selena married John C. McLAUGHLIN in 1874, probably in New York State. Their son, James Henry McLAUGHLIN was born Feb. 22, 1882, maybe at the Lincoln Nursing Home. Not much, is there? I don't know if the records go back that far in New York State, so would appreciate if you point me in any direction that I haven't thought of yet. I can't look on the 1860 census unless I know her parents' names. They might be in the 1880 census, after her marriage, but I'm not sure of the city. My father said that she taught school before her marriage. (Couldn't be after marriage, because married women were not allowed to work - right?) Could she have had some college or was that even required to teach elementary grades. She married at 21, so she wouldn't have had too much time for both college and working. However, even in my own lifetime, I remember that one could teach in a rural school with only two years of college, back in the 40s. Thanks for any help. Mildred in Lake Geneva, WI

    3. Thanks, all, for the information on Franklin County. Of course Saranac Lake would have to be in two counties, wouldn't it? Well, then, I will try my first question. Does anyone know if there was a "Lincoln Nursing Home" in either of these counties in 1882? TIA Mildred in Lake Geneva, WI

    2. Richard, I don't know about the book you were referencing but I know of book entitled "Historical Sketches of Franklin County and Several Small Towns" It has information on Fort Covington among many and it also has many short biographies of local people. It was written by Frederick J. Seaver of Malone, NY and has a copywrite of 1918 to J. B. Lyon Company, Printer. I know that Higginson Book Company (508) 745-7170 specializes in this type of book. If you have something special you want to know I'd be happy to research my copy of this book and let you know what I can find. Paul

    3. To all who are friends and relations of Mary Woodman, It is with saddened heart that I let you all know that my mother passed away yesterday evening. She asked me to reply to all her email messages, but I thought it might be easier to just email everyone on her address book. We wanted to let you know this way since she gets about 80 emails a day from all her genealogy friends and associates. I appreciate the calls so far recieved, and if there is anything further I can help with, please do not hesitate to email me: sandora7@yahoo.com I thank you all for being a part of my mothers lifelong passion as it meant the world to her. She spent all her adult life recording our family history and helping others to be able to record their family histories. Family has always been our strongest bond and our lifelong treasure... may you and yours always have health and happiness and be strong together. Peace be with you all, Sandra J. Woodman Kristine M. Woodman Kathleen A. Woodman (Amanda Woodman) Susan L. Woodman (Kasie Woodman) March 21, 2001 MARY LOUISE PIERCE WOODMAN OF ASHEVILLE, N.C. AS THE STORM WAS BLOWN AWAY AND THE SKIES TURNED A LIGHT BLUE GRAY, MARY PASSED ON FROM THIS WORLD PEACEFULLY IN HER SLEEP SURROUNDED BY HER DAUGHTERS. SHE WAS A BEAUTIFUL PERSON WHO FOUGHT A STRONG AND COURAGEOUS BATTLE THAT EVENTUALLY OVERCAME HER. SHE WAS A RESPECTED AND OFTEN SOUGHT AFTER GENEALOGIST IN THE NEW ENGLAND HISTORIC GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY, AMONG MANY OTHERS. SHE AUTHORED MANY "BRANCHES AND TWIGS" ARTICLES IN THE GENEALOGICAL ARCHIVES. SHE HAD MANY INTERESTS AND CAREERS BUT SHE MOST RECENTLY WAS EMPLOYED AT GIVENS ESTATES RETIREMENT HOME AS A UNIT SECRETARY. PRECEEDED IN DEATH BY HER FATHER ARTHUR JOHN PIERCE OF SYRACUSE, NY. Mary is also survived by many children and adults whom she "adopted" into her family: James Means, Shawn Williams, the entire Turreff family, Barbara Collett, Jennifer and Kassandra Tuttle, The Braham Family, Alicia and Jermaine Pelt and many, many, many others, too numerous the mention today. Mary and her family struggled with the debilitating effects of Emphysema. Donations or gifts may be made to the National Lung Association with the hopes that others will be helped. Mary was also involved in Pediatric A.I.D.S research and believed that this was a cause that needed everyone's attention. She will be forever loved and never forgotten. A private family memorial service will be held in Asheville in her honor.
