    1. HOLMES, Malone, 1869-70; Lookup Request Please
    2. I am having a terrible time trying to locate my William HOLMES who is said to have lived in Town of Malone in 1869-70, give or take a few years. He was a dentist according to the info I have. Were there City Directories for Malone back then? If so, is there someone on the list who could do a lookup for me? I have looked in the NY Census for Franklin Co. and he's not there. If anyone can suggest another way to search for this elusive ancestor, I'm all ears :-). Thanks... Jackie j1029@webtv.net

I really appreciate it and hope I can reciprocate somehow, because now I've got another favor to ask! Can anyone recommend any published or unpublished books, letters, diaries, memoirs etc. dealing with the Plattsburgh area and its history? I need to check as many sources as I can find, for a book I am working on. I have seen the following: History of Clinton and Franklin Counties (author's name escapes me at the moment) "Three Centuries in Champlain Valley" by Jeannette TUTTLE "Briefly Told" by Allan S. EVEREST "Historical Sketches of the Town of Plattsburgh 1785 - 1975" "Chazy and the Revolution" by David Kendall Martin I'm sure there are more. Peter Sailly PALMER's works, plus others. I think there's a history of Chazy, but I haven't been able to find it. - What is particularly good and reliable as to fact? What are your favorites? Where are they likely to be found (some may not be available on Interlibrary Loan)? Please feel free to email me off list if this is considered off-topic. Thanks again everybody - Edie in Maine

    3. There is a place called "Deer River Flow" located just south of Malone on Route 30, in the a town of Duane. Any vital records for this area would probably be located with the Duane Town Clerk or in the Courthouse at Malone. Malone is the County seat of Franklin County. It depends on the dates whether you'll have and luck finding records. Some of the smaller towns didn't have the best of record keeping and there are lots of holes in the records as the result of this. Carmon D. 1. Michael & Horatio BRUNSON
    2. Kathy Campbell
    3. I found in the 1870 Census a Horatio BRUNSON, aged 53, who lives with his brother, Michael BRUNSON, aged 60, in Westville, Franklin County. Both men were born in Canada. Does anyone know who their parents were? Could their mother have been named Catherine. I also found Horatio in the 1860 census, aged 32, living with a Catherine BRUNSON, aged 75, who I would assume to be his mother. Can anyone tell me about these two men? I am pretty sure that they are first cousins to my great-grandfather, James BRUNSON. Thank you. Kathy Campbell

    1. Courthouse research?
    2. Hello all, I'm looking for anyone who has access to the Franklin County Courthouse. Last time I was up that way I never thought to go there! It was a long time ago and I was just starting out in my research. To make a long story short, I'm looking to see if there are any documents pertaining to a few individuals I've been researching for the last 12 years. Either in probate, land deeds, or Naturalization records. I'm willing to pay for the usual costs; copies, postage (if needed), etc. Have already gone through vital records, so do not need anything like that. Please email me directly, and I'll give names & dates and exactly I'm looking for. There are only a handful of individuals I'm looking for. Thanks! jj.bedard@verizon.net Photo Gallery Webpage http://www.bedardphoto.com

They had a son John born 1870 in Malone and then the whole family moved to Whitinsville, MA to work in the mills...They are shown in the 1880 MA census as VEO with 4 children...Mary, Moses, Josephine, and John. 2. TOM GLASSEL
    3. To clarify: Even though a PETTEE family may have English or Irish roots, some officials, clergymen, etc. may have spelled it PETTIT because that may have been a more familiar spelling to them, if they were around/from French-Canadian or Acadian areas.... Barb G

    1. PETTEE could be PETTIT
    2. TOM GLASSEL
    3. Jack & other PETTEE researchers: Hope you are checking alternate spellings, since PETTEE & PETTIT would be pronounced exactly the same. Many PETTIT in old Québec province....probably today too. Where is Moira NY? Good luck, Barb Glassel

    2. Jack Pettee
    3. Hi Listers, I am trying to find more information on a PETTEE family who settled in Moira, NY. They also lived in other areas of Franklin and St. Lawrence Co. Their names were James and Mary/Polly PETTEE. They relocated to NY from VT after 1830. The record I have states they also lived in Bucks Bridge and Potsdam. I'm not sure which county Bucks Bridge is in. I have their dates of death as June 17, 1851 and March 31, 1852 respectively, but do not know the location or where they are buried. If anyone can help here I would appreciate it. This couple had a son, James PETTEE jr. who m. Sally OTIS June June 9, 1822. I do not know where this marriage took place but suspect VT. This couple is shown in the 1840 Moira census with 1 male 15/20 and 2 females 10/15. If anyone can tell me the names of these children or if there were more children born to this couple, that too would be much appreciated. My information tells me this couple also lived in Brush's Mills and that James was a blacksmith. I have found their dates of death and know they are both buried in Sunnyside Cemetery, Brushton, New York. I do not know which town they died in. James and Mary Polly Pettee also had a daughter, Mary-Polly who married John Cooper and this couple lived in Moira. They had the following children born in NY, but I do not know the place: Olive L. Cooper b. July 10, 1831 Sarah-Sally G. Cooper b. Aug 10, 1834 Royal J. Cooper,, b. July 14, 1839 Elizabeth L. Cooper, b. Aug 10, 1842 George A. Cooper b. June 12, 1847 Three older children were probably b. VT are: James Metcalf Cooper, b. Apr 8, 1825 Mary Cooper, b. July 5 1827 Clarissa Maria Cooper b. March 26, 1829 I do know this Cooper family relocated to JoDavies Co. IL and show their in the 1860 census, but many of these children may have married and stayed in the NY area. Any help with them also appreciated.
