Hi Bobbi, I checked my resources and could not come up with anything on DEGOWAN, GOWING, OR GOWIN. What nationality is this surname? Could it be Scottish? If so, could it be spelled MCCOWAN or MCGOWAN? Sorry I couldn't help. Hi Julie, I checked my resources for the COLBURN, COBURN, & COLBRON spellings you gave and came up with zero. I also did not find any with the surname RIED or REID. I did, however, find several VALADE individuals in Glengarry, Ontario. Many of the marriages are circa early 1900's. But here a couple that are in the 1800's. Abraham VALADE m. Meline LALONDE, St. Raphael's, AUG 30, 1880. Abraham's parents: Moses VALADE & Julia VERDUN, de: Charlottenburg. Meline's parents: John LALONDE & Margy ANDRE, de: Charlotteburg (two different spellings of location) Perhaps Abraham is a brother to your Eulie VALADE. They married within one year of each other. Just a GENguess. Do you know the names of Eulie's parents? I can search further if you have their names. There are several VALADE's in the Tanguay, but we're talking about the 1700's and I need names to search there. Telesphore VALADE m. Melitime ANDRE, St. Raphael's, FEB 25, 1884. Telesphore's parents: Moise VALADE & Julie VERDON. Melitime's parents: Stephen ANDRE & Judith CIDOLITES. Hope this helps you. I'm searching the NESBITT, NESBIT, & NISBET lines. Also MCCOUCHIN, MCCOUCKIN, MCCOSHEN, MCCASHIN. Roy MCCOUCHIN and Elisabeth NESBITT were born circa 1810-1818 in Scotland I believe. I believe they were in Frankstown (Vinton) around 1845. Their daughter, Jane (or Mary Jane) MCCOUCHIN, MCCOSHEN was born JAN 1845 in Canada. Jane married Adolphe PEPIN JUN 25, 1867, Calumet, Quebec. The MCCOUCHIN/NESBITT line is my major brickwall. I don't expect to find them in NY, but who knows. Carol _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com
Hello, I am researching the family name of DeGowin, it may have been spelled Gowing or Gowin before the "DE" was added. They came from Canada and settled in Franklin County, The Malone, Fort Covington, Westville areas some time around the the late 1830's to early 1840's. There were four brothers in all, Richard, Moses, William and Henry. When they first arrived they went to live and work on a farm that was owned by a Mr. Wright or Rice of Ft. Covington. If any one has any information on this family or where I may obtain any other information on them, I would greatly appreciate your help. Thanking you in advance Bobbi
Hi, Bobbi.... I may or may not have a bit of information that may help. Please let us know if you are aware of: 1. Henry and William's civil war service? Henry's wounds? 2. Their DOBs? Their residence in Constable, NY? 3. William's mother was Mary Kingville; father was Richard DeGowin? 4. Richard's marriage to Nancy Perry in1847? Spinal curvature...was this the same Richard? 5. In 1890, Henry in Malone; William in Constable? If some or all of this is news to you, post on the list or email me. Regards, Brauck. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Misyrose@aol.com> To: <NYFRANKL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, February 16, 2002 2:01 AM Subject: Degowin Franklin County > Hello, > I am researching the family name of DeGowin, it may have been spelled Gowing > or Gowin before the "DE" was added. I am searching for information on my gg-grandfather who was Clement Colburn/Coburn/Colbron. He was married to Marguerite Reid and had a son Alexander who married Eulalie Valade at Ste. Martine, Quebec Feb 10, 1879.I found a vague reference to Clement and his family in Fort Covington and Malone. I would greatly appreciate any info about his family. I believe Clement could be placed in that are in the mid 1800s. Thanks Julie _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp.
Hi, Julie... A couple of possibilities: COLBURN, Margaret buried 1916 Section S Pine Ridge Cemetery - Additions 1 Saranac Lake (North Elba), Essex County, New York NOTES: These additions to the Pine Ridge Cemetery were recorded by Betty Pratt of the Saranac Lake Genealogical Society and entered by Ralph W. Bennett. The preceding names, death dates, and sections are from burial records only. No monuments, stones, or markers exist. Some of the listed names do not have a death date. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------- Julie, the following researcher is looking for both REID and COBURN in northern NY and Canada: Sharon McGovern Konetzki SharonK153@AOL.COM . (I am not researching either family. I just happened to be looking for MY names in Franklin County and I noted your message to the List.) Hi - this evening, messages to the Clinton County board have bounced for me. Is it jsut me, or is anybody else having problems? Thanks - Edie in Maine
Marty, your request for help on cemetery law made the Franklin County rootsweb list. The New York State Department of State regulates cemeteries, and you can find significant resources online at http://www.dos.state.ny.us/cmty/cemetery.html. You will also find a contact number there that should be able to help you. -- Carl Johnson cjohnson@nycap.rr.com http://home.nycap.rr.com/cjohnson Researching Peck, Johnson, Cath, Goodrich, Crisalle in Franklin, Essex, and Schenectady Counties, NY

An old family graveyard in the Town of Goshen NY has been desecrated by new owners. Three members of Orange County Genealogical Society went to the town board meeting on Dec 13th. The owners' attorney insists they did nothing illegal. The town attorney requested help from anyone who can provide him with contacts with other town boards/town attorneys in NY state where a law protecting private cemeteries is currently in effect. That is, he wants one or more legal precedents to use in formulation of a similar law in the Town of Goshen. Can you help? If so, please send name, address, phone number, e-mail, whatever you've got of contact people who can provide copies of >>>EXISTING<<< local ordinances that protect private cemeteries to me. I'll make sure they get to the right people. So that I don't get a flood of off-subject messages, please reply only if you can help the Goshen town attorney obtain COPIES of existing ordinances. In the book, 'Genealogy and Family History of the State of New Hampshire' edited by Ezra Stearns in 1908 there is a reference (vol. 4, p.420) to Edgar Alvah ELLSWORTH stating he was born in 'Can.,NY' in 192?. Does anyone have access to this book or know about Edgar's family? All help is greatly appreciated. Carolyn Langford Ontario
