Could anyone tell me how to get a photocopy of the marriage of JOHN FLEMING/LOUISA (Rosa) GUILE/GILE. Took place on June 15, 1880 in Brushton, Franklin Co. NY? I have been told I can't get an index # for the cert from the Rochester Library before 1884. Is there anyone that could get this for me or tell me how to do it? Many thanks Sarah
Thanks Sue! I have the Colby info (from those pages!)... I'm stuck on Syrena White, and her lineage. And just this week I found information on my Colby's which conflicts with the Colby info on the Colby Family Website. So, I'm trying to sort it all out. I do appreciate your taking the time to answer! Robin
This page has her with husband's ancestry back several generations. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~colby/colbyfam/d427.html#P16316 Sue Gurk from MI
Hi .. new to this list ... I am looking for info on Syrena White, born abt 1828. She died in Jay, Essex County, but an elderly family member believes she may have been from the Malone area. I see a Nathan White in Malone on the 1830 census - anyone have info on this family? Syrena married John Russell Colby. His parents were Richard Colby & Abigail -- supposedly Abigail may also be from the Malone area. If anyone can help with these families, I'd appreciate it greatly. Thanks!
-----Original Message----- From: Sent: Friday, January 24, 2003 10:25 AM To: QC-ETANGLO-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [QC-ETANGLO] Post 1901 Census -- 1906 Census records released today Greetings All. "Genealogists, historians, and researchers across the country won a major victory today as Industry Minister Allan Rock announced the immediate release of the nominal records from the 1906 census. Ontario Senator Lorna Milne (Liberal -- Peel Region) welcomed the news." So reads the opening paragraph of a News Release issued today, 24 January 2003, by Senator Lorna Milne. The full text of Senator Milne's News Release, and other pertinent News Releases, can be found on the Post 1901 Census Project website at http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census The announced release of the 1906 Special Census of the Western Provinces is indeed a major victory for genealogists and historians who have been actively campaigning for this for the past five years. It is felt that release of the 1906 Census will lead the way for the eventual release of the 1911 and subsequent Censuses of Canada. We are grateful to Industry Minister Allan Rock for recognizing what is right and proper, and doing what legally should have been done in 1998. We are pleased that the Minister has released the 1906 records in full, and without restrictions, on the same basis as 1901 and earlier records have been available. We are grateful also to MP Murray Calder, and especially to Senator Lorna Milne for the effort they have put in for us to reach this point in our campaign. We have won a major battle, but the war is not yet over. We have yet to deal with expected legislation that must ensure the orderly and continued release of Historic Census records, after the legislated period of closure. We expect that legislation to be brought down shortly after Parliament resumes sitting at the end of January. We trust Minister Rock, in drafting the legislation, to remember that what we seek is the same unrestricted access to records after, now 1906, that is currently available for records up to then. Researcher, I'm dealing with the mountainous headache of reclaiming my life. Proving who I am is harder than one can imagine. A year later and I am no closer straightening out this mess. Lawyers fees have pushed me into bankruptcy. As this article mentions. This person lost their identity through a genealogy web site. The same with me. Please be careful! WW This is just one example of many i have found. http://www.ancestry.com/library/view/columns/george/5828.asp http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2002/03/12/eveningnews/main503584.shtml Identity Thieves Get Online SALEM, Ore., March 12, 2002 (AP) "It's something you don't have to be a rocket scientist to do." Stephen Massey, convicted identity thief ID THEFT ON THE RISE (CBS) Identity theft has become an epidemic, with thieves surfing the Internet for public records and rifling through the garbage for names, records and receipts. CBS News Correspondent Jerry Bowen reports an estimated 750,000 victims a year are affected by the crime. The practice is as common in the newspaper police blotter now as old fashioned burglary, and no one is immune. Ben and Tracy Bales' 16-month-old son Tyler's identity was stolen after the boy died. Ben explains someone claimed Tyler as a dependent to get a $1,500 tax credit. The Baleses learned of the fraud only when the Internal Revenue Service rejected their tax return. It angers Ben that the Salem, Ore. couple had to bring a death certificate and other documents to the IRS as proof when, "The person that stole his identity didn't have to prove anything. But we had to prove that he was our child." The Baleses believe the thief got Tyler's information from a genealogy Web site, where he is still listed. Ironically, they still don't know who the person is, because the IRS protects the thief's identity. And then there's the story of Seattle resident Dawn Whitaker. Identity theft made her life a living hell. "I lost my life," she says. "I lost who I am because somebody else became me." As she has worked through piles of paperwork trying to clear her credit record, so far the thief has rung up about $5,000 in fraudulent checks and credit card charges. Along the way Whitaker made an amazing find: there was video from a record store of the person using her stolen credit card, twice in 20 minutes. But without a name for the face caught on tape, she says the police won't even look at it. "If I knew a name, we wouldn't be going through all this," she explains. Identity theft is a low priority for many police departments, and that's a big advantage for identity thief Stephen Massey. Though he is now in federal prison, he maintains, "it's something you don't have to be a rocket scientist to do." Massey ran up $400,000 in fraudulent credit card charges on the stolen identities of 800 victims. He says he got help from the credit card companies. He sees Web sites that allow you to apply for and receive credit card accounts online as "free money." "It's better than robbing a bank," he says. "But you're robbing a bank." © MMII, CBS Worldwide Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Having difficulty reading Nellie Fleming's Mother's maiden name on the above document. Looks like it could be GUILE. They were from Tupper Lake in 1899. Her first name was ROSE and her husband was JOHN FLEMING. Both born in Canada. Opinions please. Also does anyone have access to 1900 census that could check on FLEMINGS, John and Rose. I also know that Nellie had a sister, Grace. Many thanks Best wishes, Sarah
FLAVIA BISAILLON was my great great grandfather's first wife. His name was FRANCOIS-ESAIE LANCTOT (LANCTO/LONCTO) I do have info that they were married on Nov. 25, 1862 in Malone, New York at St. Joseph's. Witness' were: HUBERT LANCTOT and AMABILE BISAILLON. They had three children: PHOEBE (GADIAN) born in 1863, ESTHER born in 1865 and ESAIE, JR. born in 1867. All in New York. In my great great grandfather's wedding announcement to my great great grandmother (DELIA CARDINAL) in Dec.1870 in New York, it indicated that he was a widower. This seems to tell me that Flavia died between 1867 - 1870. Does anyone have any info on her? Thank you... Lfelixthekat@aol.com

I am looking for anyone who might know of the following family: Clara Ann Douglass born August 27, 1875 in Craftsbury, Vermont married a ?? Preston. They lived all their lives in Malone, New York. Clara Ann was a sister to my great-grandmother Cassandra "Kizzie" Douglass Felix. When she died in January 1952 it listed her sister, Clara Ann Preston as still living in Malone. I can remeber going to see her a couple of times over there in the mid-40's. It is possible she had a daughter named Florence Preston. I have not been able to find any family members still living who remember about the daughter. I thought perhaps if there was a city directory for the 1950's time period she might be listed in there. Thank you.
Hi All. I was hoping someone might have info on the Apollos(Paul) Smith family. My relative was George Martin, who was Lydia Martins brother. Lydia Martin( 1834-1891) was Paul Smiths wife. I am familiar that there is a college, restaurant and town named after Paul. I have no info on Pauls parents. Lydias father was Hugh Martin(1809 NJ -1881 Franklin Co) and her mother was Sally Goodell(1811 VT- 1880 Franklin Co.) I have no futher info on the parents of Hugh or Sally. Many of Lydias brothers can be found on the census working at Paul Smiths hotel in the 1880s. Please email me anytime. Thanks Ronnie in Florida
Hello veterans and newbies of the RootsWeb. I have received permission from the listowner to make this offer. There are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are more than 41718 prisoners on record from the Union, ( 6680 from Pennsylvania )and quite a few who were held prisoner here as Union regiments from Confederate states. There are also nearly 13000 ( 2261 New York ) marked graves of those who died here. I thought I would send my offer as these would lead to a great many descendants who might be looking for them.. I feel the need to say I am not in anyway trying to focus on the horrors of Andersonville compared to any POW camp in the north ..( i.e.Elmira ) or any others and do not wish to stir up arguments on this site. My focus is dedicated to ALL of those held prisoner during this war , on both sides as well as all Americans who gave their freedoms for those that we enjoy today.. I just happen to be near Andersonville so this is where I do my work Here are my sources of research. There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of 12960 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 41718 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I also have the continued update database which is dated October 01 2002 . . I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. Please do not consider this spam as my research offer is FREE for the asking . Please email me directly at Frye@gnat.net If there is anything I can do in helping your research at Andersonville, please just ask.
