Hello, I found 3 churches which I think are Catholic in Malone, NY, St. Joseph, St. John Bosco, and Notre Dame. I am looking for marriage and birth records for French Canadian ancestry. Does anyone know if French Canadians belonged to a particular church, or should I write to all of them? Thank you for your help. Terry
Hi, Found in a database Bernard Boyer married Emilie Lazure in 1845 in Ste-Martine de Chateauguay, Quebec. Dates coincide, maybe they are Narcisse's (Nelson's) parents? Many couples from that area in Quebec migrated to New York state. Regards, Andree
Hello, I am trying to help a friend who has not had any luck in finding his ancestors. I am posting in the hope that someone may have personal sources that they can check or perhaps someone else is also researching this family and can give me some help. Narcisse Boyer was born in Malone, Franklin Co., NY about Nov 5, 1864. He died in Springfield, MA in 1947. His father's name is Bernard, mother's name is unknown. Narcisse's death cert. states both parents were born in Canada. I found Narcisse (Nelson) listed in the 1930 Hampden Co. MA census with his second wife. I want to find the name of his first wife and where they were married. I am also looking for any information on Bernard, wife, where born and married. As you can imagine, it is very hard to continue this line unless we can find the wives and where they were from. Any help anyone can provide is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Terry

Hi John and Donna! I have a Leonard Joseph Bova who married Mary Margaret Harrigan. She died on September 23, 1994 in Bombay, Franklin Co., NY. They had one daughter, Shirley, b. January 27, 1945. I don't know much more than what the SS records show for Leonard --LEONARD BOVA 14 May 1912 Feb 1974 13601 (Watertown, Jefferson, NY) (none specified) 116-03-8129 New York. I am guessing that this might be Mary Margaret Harrigan's husband, I'm not sure. I am not sure of the dates, because these were passed on to me by the Harrigan family and have not done any work on the Harrigan family personally. Do you see any connection to your Bova family? Have a great weekend! Joe Joseph R. Murnane 4219 Jersey Rd. Williamson, NY 14589 315-589-6631 JMurnane77@aol.com Surnames: Murnane/Murnan, Kelly, Millar, Collins, Hayes, Hotaling, Ryan, Scanlon

Hello, There was a guy in Franklin County who married four different wives before 1967. His name was Osborne Allen GRIFFIN. I have the names of the wives, but not the marriage dates. Here are the wives names: Emma CHARLAN Pauline BURNS Florence RUSHFORD Florence M. MASON I don't know if they all died, or they got divorced or what? He was born in Dickinson, Franklin, New York 1893 and died in Bangor, Franklin, New York 18 Mar 1967, so I assume the marriages all occurred in Franklin County? I haven't located any Franklin marriages online yet, so if someone knows where to find these, that would be great! Thanks for your time, Shanna Shanna Jones shannajones@charter.net "So Many Ancestors, So Little Time!"
Hi Everyone, Is anyone doing history on the above surnames? I would appreciate any help. Thanks
Hello: What a charming bit of history. Well, if my hunch is right, and the Ogdensburg Masons are Peter's family, then Peter's father (also Peter) was born around 1821 in Canada. I searched on LDS for the birth of a Peter Mason and found nothing, but when I substituted Masson for Mason, I came up with a Peter Mcewen, born 1822 in Martintown, Ontario. Although I haven't found her birth information yet, Anne Macarthur Mason (Peter Jr.'s wife , was born in Martintown, Ontario according to her obit. Now what if young Peter was spending some time at Grandma's and Grandpa's and spotted pretty Annie Macarthur in Martintown.........what do you think?....am I grasping at straws?. Well, even if I am, it's fun to imagine. Nice hearing from you! The key will be in the 1891 census. We recommend that you look at it. Errol and Valerie Cross Home Page http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~ecross/Index.htm
Jack and Nancy Soper, who are the Soper family guru's taught us what they call the "5 Mile Rule". They contend that up thru about 1910, the men and women that marry must be within 5 miles for a couple of years in order for them to get to know each other and court. We have found no exceptions to this rule (okay one family was 6 1/2 miles). The men need to be within riding distances to court the ladies. While there is a legend of "snorting boards (a board that extends the length of the bed, but prevents physical contact between girls and guys)", we find that most Moms and Dads did not allow the men to "sleep over" when they came a courting. We recommend that you look for Peter and Annie within 5 miles of each other in 1880. Errol and Valerie Cross Home Page http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~ecross/Index.htm
Hello again: You helped me about a week ago and I promised to keep you informed on my progress. I think I'm on a trail of sorts. I have Peter Mason (Macon), age 8, 1870 U.S. census, Ogdensburg, born Canada....I have Peter Mason, age 15, 1880 U.S. census, Ogdensburg, born Canada...I have Peter Mason, 1881 Canadian census, age 16, Brockville, Ontario. The Ogdensburg Mason family were all born in Canada with the exception of the youngest daughter. Peter's wife, Annie, her 2 sons, James and John Donald and her daughter, Sarah settle into Massena after 1905 according to a few obituaries I now have. Anyway, I am working away at it and I thought I'd share it with you. Thanks again for your previous help. I will keep you informed of any new developments. I joke about Peter being a gypsy because he is so hard to pin down in one area. I would love to find him because he is the key to going back further in my Mason line. From what I've heard, my female ancestors were not tolerant when alcohol was involved. I think I figured out the granddaughter in the Moulinette census. The eldest daughter, Eliza, eventually married a man named Gordon Brownell...in the census, Gordon lived nearby the Mason family...he was 20, and Eliza was 19, so the grandaughter, Edith was probably their daughter. Thanks again for all of your hard work! This is not an uncommon family. Strong willed families had a problem around 1900. Men who made good lives for families, but could not read often turned to alcohol and other drugs to cover their frustrations with the world around them. In our family there are a number of men who "ran away". Don't judge Peter to harshly. There were "millions (maybe even 10 of millions)" of men that did the same thing. We have invested a reasonable amount of time in your family. Please keep informed of your progress thru the list. Let us know if we can help further. Thanks so much again. I haven't had too much time since yesterday to look up a Quebec origin for Peter Mason, but hopefully, I will find time today. A nice lady named Sue found me the obituaries for 2 of Peter's children (John D. and Sadie). John D. (I believe that this is Donald Mason) died in Pawling, N.Y., and Sadie died in Massena. To my good fortune, this lady was given a box of old newspaper clippings when a woman in her genealogy group was cleaning out her closet and throwing things away....thank God she kept them! It gives their birthplace as Moulinette, Ontario. Moulinette no longer exists (it was covered by water when the Seaway was built, but there is a historical organization in Long Sault, Ontario which has info on Moulinette....I will be contacting them. Everyone has been so helpful and I truly appreciate it. All this information has pointed me in a new French Canadian direction.
