She was born Abt. 1805 in New York NY, and died Abt. 1890. Notes for SAMUEL SHELDAN SMITH JR.: Census of June 1880 Sheldon John ( son of Samuel ) stated His father was born in Connectect And his mother was born in Indiana This information was obtianed from Sheldon J Smith's Death certificate His father, Samuel Smith, was born in New York His mother, Jenntte Martin, was born in New York Faith Gennett Martin? I searched all of the Martin's in Delaware County, New York and through a process of elimination came up with the fact that Ebenezer Gould Martin was most likely the father to Faith Gennett. He was the only Martin in the area to have a daughter of her age, unless Samuel Smith and Gennett were married somewhere else other than Delaware County. Ebenezer's wife's name was Abigail and that was the name of Samuel and Gennett's first daughter. Ebenezer was born in Connecticut and so was his wife. He died in Delaware County in 1827. His will states: Ebenezer Gould Martin of Sidney, will dated 4 Feb 1827, probated 20 Mar 1827. Wife: Abigail Sons: Sheldon, Samuel, Thaddeus Daughters: Polly Ferris, Jennett Martin Ebenezer Gold Martin (Son of Jonas Martin )went by the name Gould Martin. Gould was most likely his mother's maiden name. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: aurina Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.franklin/6780.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: now take that info to www.nnyln.net . start with the Chateaugay paper. search creatively. post if u get stuck. use the census to find first names of married people mentioned in the paper, to create time lines and to find the children of those involved. find such things as friday 25 april 1941;Another sad and sudden death, occurred Friday afternoon, ApriL 18th, when Timothy Brown, one of the most useful members of our village passed away. He worked hard on Tuesday and also on Wednesday morning unloading a carload and cement and was stricken with a heart attack on Wednesdaynight while alone in his cozy home on Mill Street, which was known, "as "Camp Comfort." The deceased was born in Chateaugay in November 1875, a> son of Michael Brown and Mary cox> Brown. Forty eight years ago he went to work for the late William Johnston and was still working for the family -etc- After his death his remains were taken to his sisters, Mrs. Frank (margaret) Greemore's commodious home on Foundry Street,-etc-dec 6 1918-Mrs. Mary Brown died at her home on Foundry street Nov. 28th after an illness of nearly four weeks. She was born in Lancaster, Canada, in 1833, her maiden name being Mary Cox. She came to Chateaugay at an early age and was united in marriage to Michael Brown in 1857, her entire married life being spent here. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mary Wayne, of amsterdam, , mrs f e greemore, chateaugay, son timothy, grandsons michael younger, base hospital, england; james younger in france; noel wayne, aviation st paul minn (also blurb abt him trying to get home and arriving abt 1 hr after she dies);robert greemore, mrs c.d. dumas, beatrice greemore.no mention of a grandson michael brown-maybe it was supposed to be michael younger-when u see census, u will understand the confusion as michaels age has a big ink blot-- 1900 census has michael and mary and daughter mary anna, now a wynne-i think the mother of the above noel "wayne"as there are articles connecting the greemore and wyne families to the carrie and noel in the census. grandsons michael and james younger are in the census, also. cited for bravery Private Michael Younger, of Chateaugay, who is now a member of the 63rd Infantry stationed at Plattsburgh Barracks has been recently cited for bravery in the World War. Private Younger / a member of Company K., N. Y. S. G., at Malone prior to enlisting in the regular army and has many friends in Chateaugay as well as Plattsburgh. etc. 1910 noel "wine" 15 lives with his grandmother widow mary brown, who had 5 kids, 4 alive. son timothy 23 also widowed, his? son michael,i think 2 , and james younger 20. carrie moves to connecticut, has a daughter barbara ann 1919 Private Noel J. Wayne returned home on Monday from the Aviation Mechanics etc 1946 death of james waye, father to carrie and noel. lots on many michael browns-u will need to do some research there. you may find more, that was just a quick synopsis. good luck Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
