NY: It was said that my Husband's gr-grandfather,John Gibson was born in Franklin Co. New York in 1839. His parents according to his death certificate were Napoleon and Sophia Jock. When John was ten his father passed away and John left his home and went to St.Agnes to make a living at that young age. On Oct 20 1863, He married Mary Carriere born May 31,1842, who was the daughter of Joseph Carriere and Mary Viau. It was said that John and Mary got married in St. Agnes Dundee which is to the North just in Canada I believe. We went to Malone NY because I have pictures of an elderly lady from a Malone NY studio. We also went to surrounding communities. As well as St. Agnes dundee and Huntingdon. As I find any info I would be glad to share it. I have been to Skeery several times since some of my wife's relatives were from there. Can you tell me where the cemetery in Skeery is located? I know that Skeery is located at the end of Limekiln Road and there is I believe a Picairn road there also. I also know where the one room school house is located. Can you tell me where in relation to those points the cemetery is? My wife's relatives were buried in Notre Dame cemetery in Malone but I cannot find any info to confirm all the burials. Any help will be appreciated. My wife's relatives are Lepage, or Lapage or Page. It is all very confusing as is all genealogical research. Thank you.
Hello: The Chateaugay Historical Society at the Library in Chateaugay has transcriptions of the tombstones at St. Pat's. I found more information than is available on the website. I did discover where my ancestors came from in Ireland. As well, they do have a map schematic of where everyone is buried. Everyone [and I do mean everyone in Franklin County] there was extremely helpful during my visit this year. They also have a reasonable fee for service for lookups. I accomplished so much more than I anticipated because the people of Franklin County went out of their way to be helpful. I think that you could contact the Head Librarian there: Eileen Clar (chatmeml-at- northnet.org) for more information. Also, if you are looking for information from St. Patrick's Church, you may want to contact them before you expect to be there as one needs some permissions from the priest there to get access to the church records. I only have the mailing address: PO Box 908, 132 West Main Street, Chateaugay, New York 12920, U.S.A. I do have some general pictures of St. Patrick's Cemetery at Chateaugay and some with the Montgomery's in the foreground, if anyone would like them. Please contact me off list. I just looked to see if St. Pat's was listed. All of the cemetery listing I've used are actual headstone transcription and didn't know that some of the info is church listings. I'm planning a trip next summer to Franklin County (from AZ)and if you haven't gotten help by then I'd be glad to take the photos for you. I know it's a year from now and you probably don't want to wait that long (I always want info NOW) but if you still need the photos email me in April and I'll do it for you.
