Author: StreeterJWS Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.franklin/6819.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am replying to this message to make contact with Clark researchers in the Franklin Co., NY, area. I am not active on the message board, but monitor the NYFRANK-L listserv. I have an ancestor Sophia Minona Clark who was b. 23 March 1822 in, I understand and believe, Alburgh, VT. She married H. P. Streeter of Fort Covington, Franklin Co., NY about 1840, their family appears on the 1850 Federal Census in the county. I am interested in Clark family research in the area of Alburgh, VT, and Franklin Co., NY, to help identify her parentage. Can any of you help me? Do you know where in Vermont that said John Clark may have been born in 1836? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. John Clark was Melburn's father. John Clark had a wife named Diantha Briggs, and after Diantha dies, John marries someone named Charlotte. I think Charlotte's maiden name was Spencer because after Etta dies an "aunt" named Spencer (first name starts with H. but hard to read on the 1910 census) comes to live with Melburn. Charlotte had a sister named Huldah, and I am assuming Huldah is the aunt. I've seen some family trees listing Etta's name as Spencer, but I don't think this is correct. Does anyone know what Etta's maiden name was...the Etta that married Melburn George Clark in 1880? I've had a very hard time tracking that one down. The maiden name of Ellen (1802-1871), the wife of Cornelius Toomey was Sheehan. The Lyons, the Lynchs, the Rogers and the Toomeys all hung around together. Is it a fair guess that Ellen Sheehan and Catherine Sheehan were sisters? That would explain a lot, assuming I have my generations straight. The evidence is circumstantial at best.Your Dorcas Caroline Winchell was the sister of my ancestor, Sarah Elizabeth Winchell who married Seth Blanchard and lived all her life in Fort Covington, Franklin Co., NY. In 1870 a David Barker (72)was living with this Blanchard family. (David was listed in the 1860 census in Fort Covington living alone, and died in 1875.)In 1850, a James Barker was living with Elijah & Dorcas (Barker?)Winchell in Fort Covington. Both David and James were close in age to Dorcas and born in NY. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
