    3. In most all county court houses that I have been in, there are large index books like deed index books that are named "Index to Civil Court Cases" or something similar. Some of these are filed in the County Clerks Offices, or perhaps the County Law Library, ask around. These are sort of chronologically entered simple indexes to civil cases arranged by "surname", or corporate name, vs: "surname." So if you are looking for things that led up to a divorce for instance they can be found here, even though the Divorce Decree is sealed by the court forever. It takes some digging, especially if you are looking for SMITH vs: SMITH, but in the case you mention, it seems likely easily located. Dick Hillenbrand, www.unyg.com. I found a marriage record for George Edward Clark, son of Melburn Clark and Etta, and it does in fact say that Etta's maiden name was Spencer. I'm still assuming the "aunt" I mentioned is Huldah Spencer, who is the sister of Etta's father, George Spencer. Technically, the census should list Huldah as "Aunt-in-Law," I guess. I had thought that Charlotte's maiden name was Spencer, but I guess not. Unless the Charlotte who married John Clark is also Charlotte Spencer, another sister of George Spencer. Which would mean that Melburn married his step-mother's niece. Who knows... Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
