I am researching the CLOSE Family for my daughter in law. She descends from ADNA J CLOSE-son of SANFORD and SARAH CLOSE. I have JONATHAN CLOSE-living in the home of his Son SANFORD CLOSE in the 1860 New York Census-Jefferson--Adams In 1870 SANFORD CLOSE is no longer in the Census and his Father-JONATHAN is living with SARAH(Sanfords Wife) and her children. I know JONATHAN (born c. 1784-85 was the Father of SANFORD CLOSE. I am trying to go further back. Some researchers state that JONATHAN CLOSE born 1784-85's-Father was also JONATHAN born c. 1750 and state that his Father was REUBEN born c. 1718 and that REUBEN'S Father was BENJAMIN CLOSE(born May 18-1680 in Greenwich Conn. and BENJAMIN'S Father was THOMAS CLOSE (born c.1643)-and that THOMAS CLOSE'S Father was GOODMAN JOHN CLOSE(born c. 1600.. I have it documented to JONATHAN CLOSE born c. 1784 and Have an 1820 CENSUS-New York-Dutchess-Northeast listed with JONATHAN CLOSE JR and SR. If anyone can clarify From REUBEN CLOSE to GOODMAN JOHN CLOSE-I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Anyone who recognizes these cities please reply. Schlaustadt, Germany Jungheim, Germany Jungausen, Germany Rollshausen, Germany My ancestors came here in 1926 and some of them lived in the malone area. Friedrich (fritz) schmidt who was my grandfather used to be a butcher and worked at Acme in Malone. He married my Grandmother Rita. His parents are Friedrich Schmidt and Frieda Koegler. Im not having any luck finding their relatives in Germany living or dead. Not knowing if these cities are the right names is making it difficult finding any info. Any help would be appreciated!! Author: jranieri1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.franklin/6896.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I searched the Northern New York newspaper site for both Franklin & Clinton counties and was unable to find an obituary for the Harold Cross you seek. The only Harold Cross I found died in Lewis, New York in February 1966. He was the son of Richard and Ellen (Spear) Cross. I know it doesn't help, but it does help to rule out those areas. And maybe I'll save someone else some time checking the same source for you. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Harold and his brother Bernie Cross (my grandfather) spent several years in THE HOME FOR THE FRIENDLESS, Plattsburgh, NY, beginning abt 1900. Family lore has it that Harold committed suicide in upstate NY or VT. He served in the Army, was a sargeant stationed in 1920 in Arizona. After 1920 I have hit a wall. Father: Willie B (AKA Willis) Cross VT>NY>VT Mother: Adelaide (AKA Addie) Russell Cross VT Sibs: Bernie VT>NY; Vivian(Sanders)VT(raised by her aunt, Augusta CROSS Douglas); Shurley(adopted; AKA Hazel Hodges)VT>CA Harold's father Willie/Willis took a second wife: Bessie FOSTER and they lived in 1910 in Brighton, Franklin, NY; in 1920 in Saranac Lake, Franklin, NY. Between 1920 and 1922, Willie and Bessie moved to VT (Mt Holly). Any information regarding Harold's death would be greatly appreciated. I have much information and sources regarding his family's descendants and ancestors, glad to share. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
