The son was John Gibson who was born in Franklin co. NY in about 1837. This info was taken from his obit and death certificate from Arenac co. Michigan. The obit states Arenac Independant Aug 30 1901 AN OLD PIONEER Laid to rest in Pine River Cemetery Funeral Procession nearly a mile long. John Gibson died at his resident at Standish Friday morning Aug 23 at 6 o'clock of dropsy. Mr. Gibson was taken sick about the middle of March, bur did not take to his bed until June 1st. Though the best of medical skill was called and the patient tenderly cared for he steadily failed, and for the last seven weeks was helpless. The funeral was held at the Catholic church Monday at 10 o'clock p.m. Father Lamontagne conducted services. Friends gathered at te residence in great numbers. The funeral procession when it entered Standish was nearly a mile long and contained about 100 teams. It was without doubt the largest funeral ever held in a county residence. The large church could accomodate but a fraction of the attendants. Desceased was 63 years of age and was born in Franklin Co N.Y. When only 10 years of age his father died and he commenced at that early age to to earn his living. He removed to St. Agnes Ontario while yet a boy, where he married Miss Mary Carrier. Came to Bay City in 72 and to Sagining four years later, were he purchased 320 acres of land on the state road, a part of which is the home of his family. He made the first clearing and built te first house on the state road between Sagining and King's corners. By economy, hard work and judicious management he made a splendid farm and a fine home, and had secured for himself comfort and plenty for old age. Though quite aged he was hale and hearty till the fatal disease bore him down. It was when overtaken by adversity that his excellency of character and kindheartedness became the most noticable. Though unaccustomed to sickness he complained not, but tried to make all cheerful around him. We the fatal period arrived and he hnew that recovery was hopeless he quailed not, but faced the great unknown wit manly courage, firm in his Christian belief in after life, He was faithful and consistent member of the Catholic Church. He was the father of 13 children, 8 sons and three duaghters, 11 of which of which are still living and attenden the funeral. The remains were buried in the family lot at Pine River cemetery. The floral offering was very rich and so numerous were the contributors that their names cannot well be mentioned. Note it says St. Agnes Ontario, Because of memory and boarders way back then possibly changing, we believe it was Quebec because an old aunt used to tell one of our cousins that Grandpa John was married in St. Agnes Dundee which is right over the boarder from NY as you may know. John Married Mary Carriere but at St. Agnes Dundee Catholic Church they said they have no record. She was the daughter of Joseph Carriere and Mary Louise Viau/View. Beyond that I have been able to find no information on the families. One of Mary Carriere's sisters married Joseph Norrault/Norreau. A brother and a sister married into the Monique family. Some of them moved to Michigan. I found a Peter Monique/Monica living with John in Saginaw Co. Michigan, He would probably would have been his cousin. Then moving near him when they move to Standish Michigan. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
