    1. Fitch & Barnes
    2. Connie Barber
    3. Benjamin Franklin Barnes and Permelia Johnson moved to Dickinson Center in Franklin Co., NY around 1830 from Franklin Co., VT. Their son, Hollis, married Loduska Fitch of Dickinson Center. Before the Civil War, Hollis and Loduska moved on to WI. I would like information on any of these people, particularly the parents of Loduska Fitch. The only Fitch in Franklin Co., NY on the 1860 census is William J. who was 59 and could have been Loduska's father. Thank you. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

    3. Hi I'm new to this list and hope someone will be able to help me out. I am looking for information on the VANDERVOORT family who settled near Trout River/Constable/Ft. Covington area. On the 1840 census it lists John VANDERVOORT (b. abt 1814 in New York) with neighbors Sullivan TUTHILL (brother-in-law) and Luther TUTHILL (father-in-law). On the 1860 census for Constable it lists Luther TUTHILL living with his daughter and son-in-law and the VANDERVOORT children as Matilda age 21 (she married 31 Dec 1864 in Trout River to Warren James DASSENCE of Chateaugay), Nelson age 19 (Civil War vet), Jason age 16 (Civil War vet), Phebe age 14, Paul age 10, Charles age 8 and John age 6 (I think he's the John VANDERVORT who died of drowning on 30 May 1878 "a young married man".) John VANDERVOORT (head of house above) is the brother to my line - Benjamin Franklin VANDERVOORT b. abt 1819 in New York. I am trying to find out who their father is. On the 1840 census there is a male aged 70-80 living with John and I'm wondering if he's the father. I know these VANDERVOORTs are related to the ones in Clinton Co., but haven't made the connection yet. I also understand that there's a cemetary in Trout River, and wonder what kind of condition it's in or if any information can be gleaned from there as well. Any help would be overwhelmingly appreciated!! Carol Pratt

    1. Ft. Covington Information
    2. There is quite a bit of information at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyfrankl/ Go to the index and then a partial list of cemeteries. As for where to write, I sent a number of requests earlier this year and recieved information from the following. Wead Library 64 Elm Street Malone, NY 12953 I also recieved some birth and death certificates from Mrs. McElwain, the Registar of Vital Statistics for the Town of Ft. Covington. Her address is PO Box 483, Ft. Covington, NY 12937-0483. The Franklin County Clerk also has some census records for mid decade as well as lists of naturalized citizens. That address is: Franklin County Records Center 63 West Main Street Malone, NY 12953 I had also requested information from four cemeteries last year, and was pleasantly surprised with the responses I recieved.
