--WebTV-Mail-23126-122 Content-Type: Text/Plain; Charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit There is a Pine Gove cemetery in Westville on Rte. 122 that has quite a few stones with the name Man/Mann on them (Albon Man, Aldrich Man, several others). Perhaps that is the one you are looking for? A few other names were Dustin, Warren, Rinhart, Constantine, Griffin. Quite a few are from the mid 1800's. I believe the old Fort Covington cemetery is the one on Rte. 37 just before the fire station. There is a little street off to the left there. A lot of the stones are laying flat. The newer cemetery is a little farther down Rte. 37 past the fire station. Hope this helps! Does anyone know where I can get information on the Rutland Railroad that use to run through Malone? Darlene Southern California
Sue: There are several cemeteries of which could be referred to as the Old Cemetery. There is one old cemetery right behind the St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, The one which is referred to as old St. Mary's is the area (section) to the rear of the current St. Mary's Cemetery near the caretaker's shack. There is another in the area behind the Fire Dept. All of the names except that of St. Mary's escapes me at this time. I believe that the one behind the fire dept. contains the oldest stones, but I can't be sure. I hope this information has been useful and if I can be of any further assistance just drop me a line. Thank you to all who responded to my questions about this sanatorium in Franklin County. Sue Moyer
Many thanks to Pat, John, Wayne, Maxine and others who had any suggestions. Now my friend will go with some leads. I'm about convinced that the cemetery we want is going to be Pine Grove in Westville. Dates of death are 1831 and 1840, so I hope those old stones are still there. Now---if someone could tell me which Fort Covington Cemetery, referred to as the "old cemetery in Ft.Covington", is the one which is indexed on the Franklin County website. How I wish I were going myself!!

Hi List, I am lucky to have a friend from here in South Dakota visiting family in Franklin County, leaving tomorrow. He has said he will look up my relatives in the cemetery and take pictures. Problem: Family record says the cemetery is Old Pine Tree Cemetery in West Constable, another reference says Mann Cemetery. I cannot find a cemetery by either of these names in any listing of cemeteries in Franklin County. Could Pine Grove Cemetery be Old Pine Tree? And would that be the same cemetery as Mann Cemetery? Help, help. Thanks, thanks. Sue Grable (Researching all Erwin families)

What I remember of Sunmount it was originally a veteran's hospital then a hospital for the mentally disabled and I believe it still is. One of my relatives died there. His name was Louis Paye...he was also a vet. I think you can call them to ask about records...Franklin county might have these records also. Is anyone familiar with the history of this sanatorium which was or is near Tupper Lake? I want to check on a WWI Veteran (Anthony Couch) who died there in June of 1932. I don't understand why he was there because he was a Syracuse resident. Who would I contact for a death certificate? Is there a local library or historical society that would have newspapers from this time period? Thank you for any information on any of the above. Sue Moyer

Hi List Members, A few weeks ago, we had a thread going on book finder sites. The following appears to consolidate more than any of the other sites when looking for a rare or out of print book. It is: http://www.bookfinder.com/ Richard Kearns
Hi again list, Well, I have received some information that I tend to think is a hoax but even if the heir part is a hoax maybe someone out there knows something about this situation and maybe someone can help me in my quest to find my ancestors. If anyone has any information, no matter how small or unlikely it seems, please let me know. I have contacted the grandson of the Lawyer mentioned in the following newspaper article but he doesn't have any of his grandfathers records so now I don't know where to turn. Copy of a newspaper article printed in 1925: Syracuse Post Standard Thursday 23NOV1922 PROSSER HEIR TO SHARE OF BIG FORTUNE? Syracuse Man Hopes News from Saranac Attorney Proves True. SEARCH OF RELATIVES Estate in England of Banker said to be Worth $10,000,000. Dreams of a large fortune may be realized by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Prosser of No. 1430 West Genesee street due to an investigation being carried on in the United States to find all the heirs of Charles Prosser, first white man to enter the Lake George country, and a banker in Buffalo many years ago. The banker is said to have left an estate estimated at $10,000,000 and his Syracuse namesake is hoping that information he received yesterday may be true. Detective Oscar Naumann visited the Prosser home, with a letter written by Francis H. Cantwell of Saranac Lake, attorney for an Adirondack region heir of the estate. The attorney was anxious to get in touch with the Syracuse heir in the hope of gaining some more information, and a query was sent to the police because Prosser's address was not known to Cantwell. Property of Prosser. There seems to be a lack of specific information about the Prosser fortune, but it is reputed to include copper, slate and marble mines and quarries, real estate in London, and money in the banks of England. One report is there are but four heirs to the Prosser fortune, but Attorney Cantwell said over the telephone from Saranac Lake last night he believes the possible claimants exceed that number. Prosser formerly lived in the Tupper Lake region where he was a farmer, lumberman and contractor. About 15 years ago, he came to Syracuse and made his home with his three sons, Herbert, William and George Prosser. The story of the fortune is that the great-grandfather of the Syracuse and other heirs, came to the United States from Cardiff, Wales. He settled in the Lake George country, hewing his home from timbers of the forest. He entered the trading business and made money. Then he realized the opportunities banking offered, and stated a bank in Buffalo. Long Search for Heirs. Prosser is represented as being one of the Builders of the Erie canal. Following his death, search for his heirs started, and it is said to have continued for the past 25 years. The Syracuse heir said he had heard he might be an heir to part of the fortune, but knew little about it. He wrote Attorney Cantwell last night in the hope of gaining further details. ------------------ Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rikki PROSSER, BARRY, MCINTYRE, LARRABEE, BROWN, MARTIN, BLAKE with some BOULIER/BOLLIER/BEAULIEU, YADDOW AND MYERS tossed in for good measure.
