Can anyone tell me what cemetery may be referred to in information from Historical Sketches of Franklin County...by Frederick Seaver? And directions for getting there from Malone. On page 278 he mentions a Free Will Baptist Society was formed in 1811 and one of its pastors was the Rev Charles Bowles, a negro, and revolutionary soldier who died in 1843 in Malone and is buried in Constable. On his tombstone is inscribed, "for forty years a faithful minister of the Free Will Baptist Church". Pages 296-298 about the town of Dickinson mentions that his last days were spent in Malone with a Mr. Fuller, in the northern part of the town, where he died in 1843 and again it states that he is buried in Constable. From other information, we know that Charles Bowles was born in MA, had children born in Warren, NH and preached in various towns in VT before coming to NY. And who is Mr Fuller? Thanks for any help. Where did all you people come from? I am researching my wife's Hickok, Hickock, Hicock, family from Franklin and St. Lawrence counties. In particular looking for any and all information on Myron Nye Hickok who appears in 1830 census of Malone living near Stephen D. Hickok and his sons. Also interested in finding out what the "D" in Stephen D's name stood for. Think it might be Dewey but have never seen it spelled out. Glad to see some activity on this list. Jim Florida
For anyone who may not yet have found my web site, I've been working on transcribing Franklin County, New York cemeteries for about a year and a half now. Haven't posted too much new lately as we've been ultra busy with a bathroom remodel. However, did manage to get Develin Cemetery in Bangor up yesterday. That makes all of Bangor's cemeteries online. Hope to finish transcribing Riverside in Westville on Saturday -- that will finish off Westville. Also -- hope to get two different transcriptions of Fort Covington Protestant cemetery uploaded very soon.
