I lost everyones e-mail that responded to this so hope everyone will be able to find this update. Thanks to Stan,Diane and the rest of you Angels! We arrived in Franklin Co. Sunday evening. Monday we started our day at the Information Center in Monroe. The gal was very helpful and gave us instruction on getting to the Court House and the Library. We went directly to the Courthouse and found scant information of use to us. EVERYONE was extreamly helpful. We did find a 3X5 card with some information about my Great Grandfather Denis McCarty's Naturalization. Following the gal's advice we contacted a man named Walter at the Court House. We showed him our "Land Record" for Denis and he even drew us a map on how to get to the exact property that was the McCarty Farm. We were estatic! What appeared to be the foundation of the house was still there. The land and trees were beautiful and my heart skipped a few beats just standing on the land that they had farmed. Why they left this little bit of heaven for land unknown in Iowa will always be a mystery to me. We took lots of pictures. Unfortunately for you, and for us all the offices were closed up because of the funeral of your Judge. Needless to say for us it was a big disappoinment to have waited so many years to be able to make the trip and to have run into this. I doubt that we will ever make it back up there. We also visited the Catholic Church to see if we could get some records as all of the kids were born and baptized there. However the Priest and House Keeper must also have been attending the funeral. Again I would like to thank all that responded to my e-mail. I also want to tell you all how wonderful this list is. If anyone runs across any other information on my Denis McCarty please let me know. Thanks! Cookie

I'm writing because I know that there are so many people from Upstate New York that would like to 'do something' for those who have died and those who are currently 'lost' in wake of this terrorism attack. Hello, Listers! I want to simply tell those in Upstate NY about the existing Memorial Wall in Ogdensburg. Approximately 5 years ago my father, Robert "Bob" Bjork of Ogdensburg, began plans to build a memorial wall for those who have had loved ones who have passed. The inspiration behind this act of kindness was to keep in memory all people who have passed, although my father's immediate inspiration was to keep the memory of my nephew Adam Michael Bjork (1983-1996) alive and honored. This wall is designed so that the whole community can plant a flower or tree in memory of their loved one. Today, the public response is enormously positive! Many flowers & trees & shrubs have been planted to honor those passed. My father continues to work effortlessly to provide help, structure and guidance to those who are interested in participating in this 'beautification' and memorial project. In wake of our world tragedy, my father is currently working very diligently on a special memorial project for those who have perished or remain lost. Please take some time out to go to Ogdensburg and visit this wall. Plant a flower. Say a prayer. Gather. Unite. Come together in your sorrow. Participate. My father can be reached at (315) 393-1107 or (315) 393-3578 or more commonly, he'll probably be seen at the Memorial Wall in Ogdensburg, located downtown, across from the Ogdensburg Mall, along the crescent. Again, I encourage you to visit the Wall and contribute your time, effort and prayer in memory of those who have been lost or perished and in solemn prayer for our Nation and remember those brave rescue workers, firemen & policemen who daily work hard to rescue & recover people from the buildings, so that a form of closure can be felt across America. Also, say a special prayer for our wonderful President Bush and for those brave military men & women who will courageously battle terrorism within this imminent war. (My husband Karl is an Army soldier who will possibly be among the 'fighting brave') Thank you for your time and for your effort & prayers! Bobbi Rae (Bjork) Lehnhardt
Hello everyone I am new to this list. Last night I found out that my Great Great Grandmother's family was in this County in 1838. I found on LDS the following info: Moses Snow born 1838 Malone, Franklin County Film # 538198 Page 44, Ref # 61972 Elizabeth Snow born 1841 Malone, Franklin County, Film # 538198, Page 45, Ref # 63407 Mary Ellen Snow born 22, Mar 1847, Film # 538198, Page # 46 All were born to John Snow & Mary Heath Davis. I have a bit of a puzzle here and wondered if someone can connect and help sort it out? In 1879, a Nelson Rushford was located in Jones County, IA selling land to Henry Denio. I know that the family probably originated in the Malone / Chateaugay area and started to do some digging. I also had a Octavia Cahier married to Isidore Odon in 1866 at Chateaugay, NY. To make a long story short, after looking a census records, putting 2 and 2 together with other Cahier and Denio members, I have concluded that Nelson Rushford is Isidore Odon. I also understand that the French spelling was Rochefort and often seen with a hyphenated or "dit" name of Odon attached. This would make sense. Isidore Rochefort dit Odon (aka Nelson Rushford) was born sometime in September 1841 in NY according to the 1900 Jones County, IA census. Octavia was born September 1834 in Canada. The had at least one child named Emma (born August 1871) and maybe a son named Michael? Can anyone have these people in their tree and/or can direct me to someone who can help? Thanks! Steven

Answering the roll call: Surnames to numerous to list. I have varying amounts of information on many of the families in Burke and Chateaugay areas of Franklin Co. and a few names and research in surrounding towns. The amount of information depends on the surname and sometimes on the individuals themselves. Inquiries welcome. Carmon D.
