    3. THE OWEGO RECORD. Tioga County News March 29, 1900 OWEGO PERSONALS Word was received here Monday of the death at his home in Seymour, CT, from pneumonia of Samuel R. DEAN, Brother of James A. Dean and uncle of C. B. and C. R. DEAN of Owego. When a young man he was clerk for W. P. STONE, a former Owego businessman. The news of the accidental death of Frank TRIPP of Binghamton Thursday evening caused many in Owego to wonder if it was a man by the same name who went from Owego many years ago to Binghamton. As far as can be ascertained it was not. George FAULKNER of Owego, was in town Monday morning and returned to Owego that night. Mr. Faulkner was once a resident of Ithaca and it is rumored that he contemplates returning here and entering into business. - Ithaca Journal. The Sayre Times rather strongly insinuates that the chief of police of that railway boro is more apt to arrest a woman for intoxication them any of the lot of men who made the place a pandemonium on pay day. Contractor J. T. CORCHRAN and a force of men have been busy lately tearing down the barn on Paige street, in the rear of the Arba CAMPBELL house on the corner of Front and Paige streets preparatory to the erection of a $6,000 apartment house for L. T. STANBROUGH, trustee of the Lyman TRUMAN, estate. F. W. CLIFFORD, Esq. of the law firm of WALLIS & CLIFFORD has engaged apartments in the new building. Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. MEAD of Athens, PA, were in town over Sunday guests of their Owego relations. Mrs. Harry ALLEN and daughter of New York are guest of Mrs. ALLEN'S parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. PUMPELLY. Mr. and Mrs. HUMISTON of Candor have been spending a few days with at the home of Geo. T. BODLE near Hiawatha. Superintendent of the poor C. B. DEAN has been ill since Friday having been attacked with a severe chill that day. Mrs. E. J. PERRY was called to Athens, PA, last week by the serious illness of her mother, who is about 80 years old. Miss Marion SMITH left Monday for Buffalo, where she will spend several weeks with her sister, Mrs. McELROY and other friends. School Commissioner Oscar GRANGER was in town Tuesday, completing arrangements for teachers' institute, which opens Monday. April 9. Mr. and Mrs. Scudder SKILLMAN and son of Union were guests of Mr. SKILLMAN'S brother, M. SKILLMAN George street, Tuesday. Mrs. George MINNEAH, who has been visiting relatives and friends in Owego and vicinity, has returned to her home in Eagle Grove, IA. Miss Dora BARTON has returned from New York where she has been engaged as a nurse for a few weeks and is at home in Flemingville. Captain Henry CAMP left last night for New York to remain a couple of days and witness the military tournament in Madison Square Garden. Postmaster and Editor G. D. GENUNG of Waverly was in town Tuesday in connection with the coming session of the Wyoming conference. Erie Conductor Martin SKELLENGER who has been confined to the house by illness for six or eight weeks, is able to dress and get about the house. Jennie PALMER, who has been employed by in the Lestershire shoe factory for some time has, has returned to her home in Owego. - Binghamton Herald. Z. L. EASTON, who has been on the sick list for a couple of weeks is able to be on duty at the roundhouse in Owego again this week. - Candor Courier. F. W. STEVER, Clerk at the Ahwaga House, who went home Tuesday with rheumatism; is no better. His ankles, wrists and shoulders are swollen and very painful. Prof. and Mrs. F. C. FOWLER of Ithaca, who were guests of Mrs. FOWLER'S parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. M. PITCHER were in Binghamton Tuesday and returned to Ithaca yesterday. Mrs. Alice BROUGHAM has returned from a visit to Ithaca and on her return was accompanied by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Charles BROUGHAM, and her little daughter, who will spend a few days here. Charles B. DUGAN the popular Pullman dining car conductor between New York and Charlotte, NC, was in town Tuesday. He returned to his home in Jersey City that night and resumed his run yesterday morning. Former Sheriff L. H. CONKLIN intends to leave Owego soon to take up his residence in Binghamton, where he will engage in the grocery business. The many friends of the family will regret their leaving Owego but will join the RECORD in wishing them success. in their new home. Lyman BOGUS had his thumb of his right hand badly crushed yesterday afternoon, it being caught between the sprocket wheel and chain of a bicycle. Dr. DUTCHER dressed the injured member. Martin SINGER of Sayre was wanted for assault on his wife and threatening her life. He drew a gun on Chief PUFF but he secured help and ran his man down at the river. SINGER paid a $15 fine. J. RUMMER and wife were in Owego recently for a few days visit. - Freeville Leader. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. GREENLEAF left for New York via the Lackawanna Tuesday. Rev. A. C. MacKENZIE, president of the Elmira college was in town today. Fred W. SEAVER, the Awaga House clerk, was able to be out on the street again. Mrs. Mame JOHNSON of New York city is stopping at Edward COLE'S Delphine street. George SNYDER intends returning to Battle Creek, MI, next week for the busy season. Miss Jennie WARNOCK of Candor visited friends at Owego and Tioga Center last week. E. STRATTON of the firm of HASTINGS & STRATTON is confined to the house by an attack of the grip. Miss May HICKS of Rome, PA, is in town for a few days, the guest of Mrs. F. D. LYON. W. W. ADAMS, a business man of Dryden is in town to attend the Red Man's time tonight. C. F. YOUNG of the clothing house of YOUNG & SWEENY was in Syracuse Tuesday on business.
