Mrs. Dwight MERRELL of Port Dickinson and Archie HOOKER of Elmira, were in town over Sunday called here by the illness of their father, John HOOKER. Mrs. Charles CORTRIGHT of Auburn has been visiting friends in town for a few days. The annual meeting of the Town Sunday School association was held in the M. E. church last Sunday evening. The following officers were selected: President M. W. BAKEMAN; vice president, Charles FRANK; secretary, LeRoy HOLLISTER; treasurer, Mrs. M. T. RUNDELL; home department secretary, Mrs. W. G. PRENTICE. The address was given by Rev. Mr. LEACOCK. G. E. PURPLE, the editor of the Herald, is having his house newly painted. Mr. Edward MARTIN of Tully is at M. CLINTON'S, called here by the illness of Grace CLINTON, who is in a very critical condition. Samuel LORING of Ithaca is calling on friends in town. The senior L. T. I., will give a social tomorrow evening. A literary program has been prepared and light refreshments will be served. Quite a number of workmen are now employed at KEMP'S new factory. Two machinists are here from Syracuse, cleaning and putting in order the machinery. NICHOLS. Nichols, May 7.- Miss Susan BIXBY of the city hospital of Binghamton is spending some time with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. R. BIXBY. Miss Minnie PRATT of Smithboro is visiting her uncle, T. DEAN Miss Grace SHERWOOD of Sayre is visiting her sister, Mrs. F. P. WHITE. Mr. and Mrs. F. H. ROSS and daughter Nina spent Sunday in Candor. M. M. CADY and daughter Juena of Dubuque, IA are visiting relatives in town. Mrs. Schuyler BIXBY died suddenly on Thursday of neuralgia of the heart, at her home on REYNOLDS hill. She leave two sons, George and Orin; and a brother John S. REYNOLDS. The funeral was held from the residence yesterday, Prof. MOORE officiating. Interment was in the public cemetery above Nichols. Rev. and Mrs. F. M. McNAIR left Saturday for their mission work in Japan. They will stop at Chicago, St Louis and San Francisco before sailing. Messrs. Dobbins and Porter Van DUSEN of Brooklyn were in town Friday. Miss Margaret J. CADY'S funeral was conducted Saturday afternoon at the family residence on River street. Rev J. Parson NICHOLS, D. D. of Binghamton officiating, assisted by W. J. GREGORY of this place. Monroe M. CADY and daughter Juena of Dubuque, IA, Mrs. W. Dwight CADY, Miss Florence STOWELL of Binghamton; Mrs. SKINNER, Misses PLATT and DINMORE and Phillip G. FARNHAM of Owego; Mrs. J. C. LATIMER of Tioga Center; John JOHNSON of Waverly; besides relatives in town, were present. CANDOR. Candor, May 9, - The Congregational society collected $14 from it's supper given Friday night. Miss Alice HULSLANDER was in Binghamton Saturday. Henry GILPIN of Flemingville visited friends in town Friday and Saturday. Died, Friday, May 4, 1900, at Enfield, Robert FULLER, aged 68 years. He was a brother of Jacob FULLER, Marvin FULLER and Alvah FULLER. The funeral was held at the home of Alvah FULLER Sunday. Rev. Mr. KLINE of Danby, officiating; interment at Willsyville. Miss Lucy WENTWORTH and Miss Edith WENTWORTH of Owego were in town Sunday. Clyde AHART is confined to the house with the grip. Rev. Phillip KROHN, D. D., was stricken with apoplexy Monday evening and at this writing is in a precarious condition. Married Saturday evening, May 5, 1900, by Manly ALLEN, Esq., Mrs. Frankie LYNCH of Candor and Chauncey KIES of Caroline. Mrs. Edward BEBEE and children of Ashville, PA, are visiting at Lee HARDING'S The Epworth Herald of May 5, gave the pictures of the cabinet Niagara district Epworth League. Among them is Mrs. W. H. HARRIS of Millville, formerly, Miss Lulu Van SCOY. The Epworth League has ordered 100 copies of the "Chorus of Praise," a singing book. It purchased 50 copies and E. H. WOODS presented them with 50 more. Mrs. Ira CHIDSEY is in Shortsville, called there by the serious illness of her grandchild. Leonard WILLIAMS. J. F. SNOVER is improving his plot in the cemetery and putting in some fine tombstones. Asa SACKETT of Grand Bend has been visiting friends in town. Cyrenus ELMENDORF is very sick. Rev. C. P. TIFFANY, the new pastor of the M. E. church, preached in two large congregations Sunday, morning and evening. The funeral of Dr. A. J. HARRIS was held at his late residence Sunday afternoon and was largely attended. Rev. M. T. MANUS officiating. The Masonic fraternity, of which he was a member, turned out in a body and officiated at the grave. There were many floral designs, among them a large square and compass. Mr. and Mrs. Frank RICE of Nichols attended the funeral of Dr. A. J. HARRIS. The annual meeting of the cemetery association. was held Monday night, J. H. JENNINGS was elected president; C. F. FIEBIG, secretary and treasurer; B. G. Slater, L. G. SEAMAN and J. F. SNOVER, trustees; Leonard Johnson, superintendent and sexton. The remains of Edwin PHILLIPS of Auburn was brought to this place for interment Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Clayton CHILDS Elmira visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. LAMPHEAR, Sunday and Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Clearance JOHNSON of Owego, visited Sunday at Frank HOLMES'. Mr. and Mrs. Jerome RICHARDSON were in Owego Monday. Charles STRONG of Fairfield had several sheep killed by dogs one day last week. Commissioner KIRK adjusted the loss Monday. Mr. and Mrs. John THAYER of Ithaca have been visiting friends in town, Edward KROM of Wilkes-Barre visited his parents Monday and Tuesday. APALACHIN. Apalachin, May 8. - Mrs. J. R. GILES left for New York Monday, where she will join her husband, who is employed at the navy yard. Arbor day was fittingly observed in the school Friday last. Hartley CARRIES and Bertha MOORE were convicted before Justice GILES last week for violating the compulsory educational law. Each was fined $2 which was paid and the defendants were discharged. Mr. and Mrs. W. WHITTAKER of Binghamton were welcome callers in town Tuesday. The annual meeting of the cemetery association was held Tuesday evening, J. S. GILES and Aaron STEELE were re-elected trustees. Forest fires have been raging near South Apalachin. Commissioner NOTEWARE and a posse of men may have it well under control now. INGERSOLL SENTENCED. Four and a Half Years and Five Thousand Dollars Fine. Ithaca, May 10. - Justice FORBES in supreme court here today sentenced Charles INGERSOL, defaulting treasurer of Tompkins county, to four years and six months imprisonment and a fine of $5,000.
