    2. Carolyn Ybarra
    3. Darcourt ABBOTT was born in NY, according to his MI census records. He settled in Parma, Jackson Co. MI, (1830's) and there is a wonderful sketch of his home in a local plat map. He was the father of my G Grandmother Ella (Abbott) SOUTHWELL. Any ideas about where he was from in NY? Anyone know about Abbotts in NY? I have found some Abbotts in the NY censuses but they only listed head of household. 3. In one of the land deeds I have from Tyre, Seneca County, NY, there is an Olive M. SOUTHWELL listed as one of the daughters of Joseph Southwell & Nancy (Bishop) Southwell. Joseph died in 1813 and Olive M. likely would have been born sometime between 1806-1813. While I know what became of all the other children of Nancy and Joseph, Olive M. is an unknown. Does anyone have a stray Olive M. in their family? Her siblings were Asa B. Southwell who lived in Seneca Falls, Lucinda (Southwell) McKee who lived in Jackson, Jackson Co. MI, Betsey (Southwell) Kritchett who lived in Ingham Co. MI and is buried in Tyre, and Edward Southwell who lived in Henrietta, Jackson Co. MI and is buried there. 1. [NYFL] Karen Peters [PETER/PETERS/MIDDLETON] with a side of WILLIAM
    2. Karen, I found your reference to Capt William to be very interesting. I could not find a reference to any children that might have belonged to Jacob and Nancy. And I did not find a Daniel but I did find a David that married a Sally Middleton. (let me know if your interested in their marriage announcement info). But I did find a Henry Peters who married a Sally Holmes, dau of Capt William; Rev John Clark All of Clinton (Dutchess Co) (8-2/26) But one more interesting thing I found was this 6737 Peters, George P. (Maj.), 30, of the U.S. Army d 11/28/19 "of an inflammatory fever" at Fort Gadsden, East Florida (born in New Hampshire; enlisted in 1808 as a lieutenant - in this newspaper release his military experience is detailed) (7-1/15/20) The newspaper is the Plattsburgh Republican and the article appeared on January 15, 1820. This might be interesting reading for you if you haven't already seen it. I can't tell you what the rest of the article in the paper states because it isn't transcribed into this book. But according to the book there is a larger article yet to read. 1. [NYFL] Jeremiah and Lovina OLMSTED in the 1860 Census, Spafford
    2. Carl Hommel
    3. I have been looking for some time for the entry of my great grandparents, Jeremiah and Lovina Olmsted, in the 1860 Census, in Borodino Village, Spafford, Onondaga Co., but with no success. Recently, I believe I have solved the mystery. On p. 734 of the Census, there is the following entry: Family 193 Isaac Olmsted 52 M Farmer NY Eunice " 50 F NY (Her father was Isaac Case.) George Case 12 M NY Family 194 Jeremiah " 20 M Laborer NY Melovia " 22 F NY Frank " 2 M NY Ezra " 1 M NY Both families are in the same house, but are enumerated as two families. I believe this entry was an error by the census taker. He used a ditto mark after Jeremiah. However, Jeremiah was in fact the son of Isaac Olmsted, and "Melonia" was Lovina Fish, Jeremiah's wife. Frank died the next year. "Ezra" was Eva, who married Miles Brott. All the ages substantiate this, and also there is no known Jeremiah Case in Spafford. Carl Hommel

    2. Bonnie Bunce
    3. Here is an update on my project: nearly 75% of the links now work on my compilation of the genealogical data in the History and Directory of Yates Co., New York This is a follow-up to the announcement of my new website. It is a compilation of the family data in the county history entitled History and Directory of Yates County, New York, by Stafford C. Cleveland, published in 1873. I extracted the names of all the families and put them into a genealogical software program and then extracted a GEDCOM file from it. I then converted the GEDCOM file into HTML files for placement on the internet. I have been going through the resulting files and cleaning them up and adding additional notes as necessary. If you have relatives who lived in Yates County, New York or adjoining counties, such as Steuben, Seneca, Livingston, or Ontario counties, or individuals who came from New York to Michigan, or other Midwestern states, such as Illinois, Indiana, or Ohio, you might want to have a look at my site. When finished, there will be records on 19,074 individuals on this site, and over 6,500 families. This is NOT a transcript of the entire history, although over the years I have sporadically made transcripts of various portions of it to have posted to message boards and online archives, and when I have remembered, I have links to those extracts in the relevant notes. I have entered notes as to where the families originated if it is mentioned in the history and also where the families moved to when they left Yates County, if that is also recorded, but I did not enter much in the way of biographical information, such personal idiosyncrasies or membership in fraternal organizations or churches to any great degree. This was meant to be a research tool, not an end in itself. While the history is a rather rare book, it has been republished a couple of times since 1873 and copies may be available at your local library or through interlibrary loan. I believe I also have seen it offered for sale through the www.higginsonbooks.com website. Please read the introduction on the first index page, since I put some relevant information as to what you will see when you access the HTML files and also links to where you might find additional information on these families.
