Surnames: Woodruff, Harmon, Pooler, Gibbs, Braddish, Dunbar Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/YRB.2ACE/1294 Message Board Post: Timothy WOODRUFF’s obit, which appeared in The Elizabethtown Post (New York) on 15 Sep 1854, states simply: “Died at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. Warren POOLER, in Westport, on the 9th instant, Mr. Timothy Woodruff, of Lewis, aged 78 years.” In searching out Timothy’s family, I found: Timothy had mostly daughters: Adeline, Nancy, Sylvia, Sophronia, Roxy, Phebe, Harriet, Margaret, and Fannie. He also had two sons, Parnell and George Clark Woodruff. [Warren POOLER was married to Timothy’s daughter Phebe.] Timothy’s father’s name was Appleton WOODRUFF. Timothy also had a brother named Appleton who lived in Lewis, New York. Timothy also had a brother named Roger Hooker WOODRUFF who named a son Ansell WOODRUFF. I am trying to discover a connection between Warren POOLER’s family (son-in-law) to Timothy Woodruff, and my ancestor, Tryphena POOLE or POOLER. Tryphena married Martin HARMON. She died in 1810 in Elizabethtown, Essex, New York (about 6 miles from Lewis where Timothy lived.) Martin HARMON’s 3rd wife was Hannah DUNTON BRADDISH, widow of Samuel BRADDISH. Hannah and Samuel had a son, Artemus BRADDISH who married Lucia or Lucy POOLER. Lucy’s father’s name is George POOLER. (George would be the same generation as Tryphena–perhaps a brother or cousin). Lucy POOLER and Artemus BRADDISH had a daughter named Diantha–a name of one of Martin HARMON and Tryphena’s daughters. They also lived in Erie County, Pennsylvania–where Martin HARMON and his grown children moved in 1818 and where he lived with his wife, Hannah BRADDISH whom he married after 1823. Martin Harmon married 2nd Mrs. DUNBAR from Jay, Essex, NY in 1814. Who is she and who is her deceased husband? Lucy POOLER has a brother named Levi POOLER who is the father of Warren POOLER, son-in-law to Timothy WOODRUFF. Could POOLER be Tryphena’s correct maiden name? If not, did her father drop the “r” and use the name POOLE? Who is Tryphena’s father??? Martin HARMON and Tryphena POOLER had a son, Jesse Perse HARMON who lived in Lewis, Essex, New York from age 6 to age 18 with John GIBBS, a near neighbor of Timothy WOODRUFF. Jesse Perse HARMON’s only daughter was named Sophronia. He had sons named Appleton and Ancil–as well as one named Amos, for whom I don’t see a connection here. THREE of his children carry the not-so-common names as the Timothy WOODRUFF family carries! Is this co-incidence? Did he just like this neighborhood family or is there a relationship here? Did Martin HARMON meet Hannah BRADDISH through Lucy POOLER, a relative of his deceased first wife? Who is George POOLER, father of Warren, and who are his parents?????
