I still hopefully go through my mail every day - but haven't received anything yet. Has anyone else waited this long for a death cert? Depends on whether you paid for a genealogy copy or a certified copy. A genealogy copy takes longer According to the State Health Department's website (http://www.health.state.ny.us), under "How Long Will It Take?" - for genealogy copies of death certificates: Processing a genealogy request may take from from nine (9) to ten (10) months. If the municipality where the event took place is known, submitting your request directly to the local registrar or municipal clerk may save considerable time. - for CERTIFIED copies of death certificates: Internet, fax or telephone requests receive priority handling and are processed within four (4) weeks of receipt. Mail requests ordered with priority handling (and submitted by overnight delivery) will require up to six (6) weeks to process from when they are received. Mail requests ordered with regular handling (or requests submitted via first class, registered, certified or two-day mail) will be processed within twelve (12) to fourteen (14) weeks from when they are received. So, if it was a genealogy copy, it should be coming any time now . . . .
