Another Howard researcher has shown that Ziba Jr, son of the Rev. War Ziba and my probable ancestor, was on the Essex County NY cenus rolls consistently between 1800 and 1850, however, so I don't immediately see how your Ziba in Kentucky can be my line. Still, family data never ceases to surprise me. [On another line an ancestor born in Quebec who lived all his married days in VT wound up serving for Wisconsin in the Civil War. That was a stunner.] I suppose my Ziba Jr. could have made a side visit to KY. The names you mention among your Daniel's children certainly suggest a family tie. My Ziba Jr. definitely had a brother David killed at Plattsburgh NY in 1814. I'm going to direct my friend to your new info. Maybe he can help with the answers. As it happens, there were two or three Ziba Howards migrating out of Massachusetts and Vermont in this time period.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/YRB.2ACE/1180.2 Message Board Post: Susan, I have a Daniel Howard b. 13 July 1798 in Vermont. He married Mary Lee, 25 Feb 1821 in Jefferson Co., Indiana and moved to Decatur County, Indiana. From there he moved to Cedar County, Iowa and died there 24 Dec 1882. I have been looking for his father for many years. His children were: Cinthia Ann, Horace (both died young), Nancy Ann, Nathan, Minerva, Ziba, Daniel, Annie Barbara, Mary Jane (my great-grandmother), Elizabeth and Eliza. He was suppose to have run away from home at about twelve years of age. I found a Ziba Howard in Kentucky and he served in the War of 1812. I am more inclined to believe that Daniel ran away from home in Kentucky instead of Vermont. The Lee family lived in Henry County, Kentucky in the early 1800s. Henry County, Kentucky is not that far from Jefferson County, Indiana. If you e-mail me I can send you the paper I found at the National Archives on Ziba who fought in the War of 1812. I have wondered if he perhaps was a son of Ziba the Revolutionary War Soldier that died in New York.

    1. Re: Town Of Essex Bicentennial
    2. I was delighted to read on this last that the village of Essex will celebrate its bicentennial in 2005. Does anyone have any information on specific dates and activities of this event? Also, I'd appreciate locating the Essex home (if it still stands) of my great grandfather, MOSES ADAM KNOWLTON, who lived in Essex after the Civil War until the late 1890s when he "removed" to Vergennes VT. He is buried north of Essex in Lakeview Cemetery with his wife, HARRIET HOFFNAGLE KNOWLTON. There are several references to him in the Essex Town Record Book and if I could locate his position I could locate several other residents of the time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. George

They produce copies on site I can deliver the same day. Most vital records contain maiden names, parent's places of birth, occupation etc. Here is my link, maybe I can help: http://www.nyscensushunt.com nysresearcher@earthlink.net
