    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YRB.2ACE/1407.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: It is the same family. From census information – and I looked at the actual enumerations. In 1840 the only Anson Benham was in Jay, Essex Co.,NY. In 1850 the only Anson Benham was in Jay, Essex Co., NY with a presumed wife named Fanny age 39. In 1860 the only Anson Benham was in Jay, Essex Co., NY with a presumed wife named Fanny age 42. In 1870 I was unable to find any census information about any Benhams. PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF THE WIFE’S NAME FROM FANNY TO LIZZIE. In 1880 the only Anson Benham was in Wilmington, Essex Co., NY with a wife named Lizzie age 50. Until 1880, the relationships to the head of household were not in the census information, that is why “presumed wife” is used. One can usually tell by the differences between the “presumed wife” and ages of other members of the family. I gave you a complete rundown of ALL the census information for BENHAMs in Essex Co. Since there was a change in wives between 1860 and 1870 – it stands to reason that the children are from the Anson/Fanny union since the last child, Almeda was born in 1856. This is the family you were looking for (there are no more). Further, I have no pictures since my main research is in the DEWEY family – I was only interested in tracing down the descendents of Grace BENHAM since her father was Martin DEWEY.

Surnames: Peck/ Benham Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YRB.2ACE/1407.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Lorraine, I don't think we are talking about the same Anson and Elizabeth. My Elizabeth Ricoby married Norman Peck in 1835. She was abt. 16 yrs old at the time. Her and Norman had 8 children. Norman died Feb. 27, 1866. Elizabeth, his widow married Anson Benham on June 3 1866 in Jay, N.Y. She was 46 yrs old and I don't belive her and Anson had any children together. Anson's first wife, Fanny Brewster died Mar. 4, 1865 at the age of 52. Anson was born July 20, 1823 and died Jan. 7, 1888. Elizabeth (Ricoby) Peck, his 2nd wife died June 3, 1904 in Peru N.Y. I am looking for any additional info on the Peck family and old photo's that may still exsist. Please let me know peckfam@hotmail.com Joe

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YRB.2ACE/1407.1.1 Message Board Post: The short answer is “Yes”, there is a relationship – I would still like to know of Grace’s descendents. Grace would have been a great grandchild to Anson and Lizzie. My research in the BENHAM family shows that the patriach, Anson, born about 1812 in Canada had a wife , Lizzie (Elizabeth) born in NY around 1820 as reported in the 1880 census. In the 1850 census, Anson and Lizzie are living in Jay and have the following children: John (ca 1831) Helen (ca 1832) childrens dates from 1850 census William (ca 1836) Marion (ca1840) Solomon (ca 1842) Sophronia (NY ca 1845) Jane (NY ca 1849) Thomas (NY ca 1851)* Almeda (NY ca 1856)* * Thomas and Almeda show up in the 1860 census. Also in 1850 in Moriah is Sarah (NY ca 1837) working outside on her own. I suspect that she’s another daughter of Anson and Lizzie. In 1880 Anson and Lizzie have moved to Wilmington. Son, Solomon (NY ca 1847) and wife Addie (NY ca 1853) are also living in Jay with their children: Almon (NY ca1880) son Ella M. (NY ca1873) dau Son, Thomas (NY ca 1856) has moved to North Elba living separately from his brother, John and his wife Marion (NY ca 1841); their children are: Hiram A. (NY b.1860) Jenny (NY ca 1863) dau Fannie (NY ca 1865) dau Kate (NY ca 1873) John D. (NY 1876) son Frank C. (NY 1876) son Either Jenny or Fannie married Martin Dewey and had one child Grace (1893 MT). Another family is also living in Jay: A.J. (NY ca 1838) and wife Jane (NY ca 1842) Cora (NY ca 1874) dau Frank (NY ca 1867) son? Ira (NY ca 1879) son Nellie (NY ca 1869) dau William (NY ca 1877) son Most likely this is another son of Anson and Lizzie.

    1. Rebecca Caswell Moon
    2. Hi Barbara, I tried e-mailing you directly but aol said you were not a "known member" so I am posting to the list. found a baptism for Simon Caswell on 12 Aug 1744 in Marblehead, Essex, MA. That says he was the son of John and Elizabeth. He married Rebecca Drury on 03 Sep 1799 in Sutton, Worcester, MA - makes me wonder if there was not a prior marriage since he was already 55 when he married Rebecca. John Caswell is probably the one who married Elizabeth Savage on 29 Nov 1742 in Marblehead. I have not figured out his parents as yet. I was not sure if you are trying to connect your Caswells back to the immigrant - probably Thomas Caswell of Taunton. I descend from Thomas via my 3rd great grandmother, Hannah Frances Knowles Caswell, who married George Washington Crandall, Sr. Donna Potter in Rhode Island

Her father was Simon Caswell b. 1844 MA and died ? Last known residence Brandon, VT, 1820. John Caswell b. 1805, MA, last known residence Brandon or Tinmouth, VT 1830. Rebecca Dewey/Drury Caswell b. abt 1776 MA d. unknown. Last known residence Brandon, VT 1820. It is possible that she lived with Jesse Moon in Ticonderoga, NY in the 1830's based on census. I would appreciate any leads or suggestions as to where I could look. Obits from that era are scarce. Barbara

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/YRB.2ACE/1405 Message Board Post: Does anyone know if the above records are available in Essex county for the period roughly 1875-1892? My immigrant ancestor, who was a naturalized citizen at the time of the 1870 census, was a resident of the town of Moriah during this time period. I've been unable to locate his naturalization record, so I'm wondering if any exisiting voter records might be able to shed some light on where or when he may have been naturalized. Thank you for any help. Lisa Dougherty

My John Meagher married Bridget Connolly of Prospect , Drangan, Co, Tipperary Ireland. They were married in Priestown, Drangan in 1846. They and their children immigrated to PORT HENRY, ESSEX CO. NY they came to NY in 1850. The only census I have found them on is the 1870 Town of Moriah, Essex Co.. But three of their children were born there between 1851-1857. So they were in port Henry before 1870. Coincidence or what. Judy jmeagher13033@yahoo.com
